Horex: New bike with a traditional name
Motorcycles are always selling worse. Nevertheless, a Munich entrepreneur trio dares the restart of the legendary brand Horex – with a six-cylinder bike.
"Built by motorcyclists for motorcyclists". This was the motto of the once big German motorcycle brand Horex. From the mid-30s to the 50s of the last century, the bikes were considered a technical pioneer – and sold accordingly well. The legendary Regina was in 1953 with 18 600 units even the best-selling motorcycle in the world. Then the sales broke and already three years later Horex introduced the production.
From the bestseller to the moped
What followed was a kind of "lamborghinization": among numerous changing owners, the brand sank into insignificance. The low point was achieved in the 1980s, when Mopeds and Mokicks were allowed to wear the once sonorous name. While Lamborghini was rescued by the Volkswagen Group, three Munich entrepreneurs are now trying to revive the historic motorcycle brand with a completely newly developed machine.
Although the market for two-wheelers is conceivable badly, the team is convinced by Clemens Neese, Frank Fischer and Fritz Romberg firmly from their idea. According to Neese, a two-digit million amount was also secured – money from private assets, private funds, from the ERP starting program of KfW Mittelstandsbank and funding in the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Already at the end of next year, the production of a new model will begin to follow the market start in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the beginning of 2012.

Compressor VR6 with up to 200 hp
Anyway, the now presented prototype is not bad parents. The centerpiece is a VR six-cylinder engine developed together with the Technical University of Munich and with the support of VW experts, which will be forced for all power overflow via compressor: from 1200 cubic centimeters displacement can be obtained as loud Horex more than 200 hp.
The approximately 20 000 euros expensive series version should have at least 180 hp – at an empty weight of just under 240 kilograms. The frame is a combination of steel and aluminum, the remaining parts come from leading suppliers: the spring elements approximately come from Ohlins, the brakes from Brembo, the standard ABS from Bosch.
Horex Classic proportions, newly interpreted
The bully engine promises best longitudinal performance, the compact design agile handling properties. "The new Horex is a very compact, concentrated, gathered motorcycle with a lot of individuality," advertises Neese for his project. The sentence could have come from Eric Buell – the end of last year under tears to announce that from his cult brand. Maybe one or the other fan of these bikes with Horex will find a new – and hopefully more permanent home.

About (design) taste you can …
… yes know-how (not) arguing. I find the design of the Horex very successful. Not so … A boring Japanese plastic bomber. And the technology can also be picked up. I’m looking forward to the first tests. And to all the underlays here: Not every motorcycle that is liable, must inevitably come from Japan!
Design shock
The device can be what it wants. But on such a beady machine I will definitely not put myself. With this company, you could really have been able to set a fragrance brand. But no, one is based on cheap China design. I would have the success of Horex the success. But that’s how it shakes me.
I still experienced a lot of Horex machines live
But what I see here is just the logo mean. Despite a great motorcycle, but what was not developed for 50 years (1960 Horex was taken over by Daimler-Benz and closed), which can no longer be made up today. And of course, the price is also happy. I’m afraid that will end like Munch.
Unfortunately, this is nothing
The design too synthetic, the price much too high and shared. a motor with charging becomes unfortunately a flopp. Just like the Munch many years ago. 100 pieces in the first year, Dannach. Mv augusta admission statistics explains why. Benelli soon brings a 12 cylinder engine, 100-200 pieces. Without a strong brand core everything is new. Pity, but the time is over.
Many dead
The magnificent sound of a Horex made our hearts faster 60 years ago. Only the obitudes of members of the Horex drivers could be silent.
Classic modern meets MZ design
The design reminds something of the motorcycles from MZ from Zschopau. The price unfortunately not. A motorcycle should today be a compromise of expediency, appearance, cost-effectiveness and price to be able to successfully go into production. The new Horex I do not quite agree but the weight and certainly high consumption do not make it to the travel motorcycle and lantern parcels is certainly too expensive to protect unprotected in front of the rental house. A cheaper model for the so-called. Mass market would have to go on the market at the same time or after the market then it will go uphill with the brand today and among the signs of economic standstill. Horex good luck!
So so
Well, I do not want to come too close here, but in this performance class, the timing belt has been customary for a few years. If you do not believe it, you can look at the manufacturer Boss Hoss. Even the BHC-3 502 with 8.2 ltr. V8, 374 kW / 502 hp and 769 nm torque comes smoothly with just one toothed belt. That keeps more than a cardan shaft. And on new Horex, what is so spectacular now? 6 cylinders already had other, compressor too. OK, the VR-Cyl arrangement is M.W. New, but therefore the same so’n Hype Drum? Less is certainly more. The machine must first prove to the target price. Who should buy them?? Who spends so much potent, finally expects consideration in the form of quality, image and more.
I’m missing technical relation to me
"original". Here was just a old name bought to make shops on a highly competitive market.
The lamp
From the box looks like a motorcycle from the 2 world gait. Motorcycling means emotions this box looks like cheaply in China.000 EUR are probably what lawyers and dentists. The motorcycle industry does not need to be surprised if the sales go back . I’ve bought a 1200 yamaha years ago for 16 years ago.000 DM but more than twice for a moped is sick
Very interesting bike
From the corner data from a very interesting motorcycle. I am particularly curious about the sound. On the design you could still file something, but if the financing is secured could the flap. If my cash register allowed it I would pay you at least a trial and then probably also buy (want).
Sound alone does not make a motorcycle
If you rated a motorcycle after the sound, you prefer to deal with something else. Especially the Horex was at its time an example of good sound and bad driving characteristics. I know what I’m talking about.
