Fifty years ago, New Zealander Burt Munro set a speed record on the salt lakes in Bonneville at the age of 68. At that time he achieved on his in the 1920s acquired and developed himself Indian Scout reached a speed of 295.44 km / h and thus set a new record for motorcycles with a displacement of up to 1,000 cm³. 

On August 13, 2017, Lee Munro, Burt Munro’s great-nephew, drove a newly rebuilt Indian during Bonneville Speed ​​Week “Spirit of Munro” Scout. Out of respect Lee Munro does not start in any of the official racing classes. According to the Indian press release, it was not about setting a new personal best. The goal of the developers was much more to create the fastest modern Indian on its feet. In the end, however, it was a new record for Indian at 307.85 km / h.

Lee Munro is proud to follow in the footsteps of his legendary uncle, who incidentally has its own feature film called it “With heart and hand” (original title: “The world’s fastest Indian”) starring Anthony Hopkins: “My uncle was a huge inspiration for my racing career. I definitely inherited his greed for speed. The opportunity Indian is giving me is just fantastic. I am very proud to be part of this team and to be able to drive with a Scout at the same location in Bonneville in honor of my great-uncle 50 years after his record.”
