Sublime is a sufficient word to describe the Brutale? For those who may doubt it, consider that the father of the MV-Agusta Roadster is none other than Massimo Tamburini, the one whose hand traced the Ducati 916 and the MV F4. The machine takes the base of the F4 with however a different air box. For the design, we dropped the fairing, which reveals the trellis frame as well as the 750 unit. It benefits from some improvements but the design of the airbox keeps it at 126 hp. The exhausts are different, just like the saddle and the tank. And when she looks at you … we are impressed by this large 50 mm diameter fork just hidden away by a surprising optical unit. And what about the sublime single-sided arm? Art !
The day is off to a bad start, Seb announces that he is coming to pick up the BUELL XB12S, which I have had for 2 days, for the photos of the next magazine. Sniff, the weather is super nice and more….
But hey, he promises me a surprise for the evening. So I am quietly having a drink with friends when I hear a screaming 4 cylinder tumbling into the parking lot. I go out and I see her…. Yes it’s her. At first glance I recognize it: the machine of my dreams, the MV Agusta Brutale; a 750 which spits more than 130hp / din. She’s there ! And she sleeps twice at home; All that’s left for me to do is cut short the aperitif (yell at the guests or fake cardiac arrest?). No, let’s be reasonable: tomorrow first hour, it’s gone !
Sunday 8 hours:
My god I slept badly! I went down 3 times to see it and what it is beautiful: 6 piston caliper on 310 mm discs, inverted 50 mm fork, the cutouts of the tank and the saddle are of enormous aggressiveness, the double pot exits on the right signed MW Agusta reveal a superb star-shaped rim held by a single-sided arm with central nut.
A work of art this motorcycle! And who’s going to walk around on it today? Me !!
Contact !
The tachometer peaks (17,000rpm … ah, those Italian dreamers!) The digital counter announces a speed of 299km / h; and the engine is not running yet !!
Starter …. here we go ! The boiler ist incredibly lively and the tachometer goes wild with the slightest twist of the handle. 1st engaged. The bike seems small for my meter 80. The saddle and the suspensions come directly from the F4, it is athletic !! I let the engine temperature rise slowly, the digital thermometer is useless: when the knees are ready, the engine has reached 100 degrees. I weld…. And there, first blah, there is a solid hole between 4,000 and 10,000 laps, but then ….
Fortunately, a small shift reminds you that the breaker cuts at 13,000 rpm because with the screaming of the engine, the arms stretching out and the smile from ear to ear, we quickly forgot to change gear. report ! The 6-speed gearbox is dry but pleasant and well-staged. The chassis being very rigid, the beast needs to be balanced in an energetic manner, the driving being sporty and not typical of a roadster … The engine temperament, which, let’s say, is ” brutal ”leads to a corresponding consumption: count between 9 and 12l per 100km (!!!) and a new Pirelli 190 / 50-17 every 4.000km….
Italian mechanics are equal to themselves, when crossing for a few km at high speed, pay attention to the next start, as the engine tends to overload; and when you have 200 people on a sunny terrace watching you and you stall, it doesn’t !!!
So what to think ?
What sensations, what images in the head after this test, one sentence sums up an MV Agusta Brutale: “The heart has its reasons that reason does not know”
At 16,000 € the end (in Belgium; a little less in France), this bike is certainly not a master buy, less comfortable than most other roadsters, practicality and unreasonable cost of wearing parts, consumption mind-boggling,…. Stop! Do not throw any more !
Despite all this, it will remain one of the most fabulous motorcycles I have tested: a piece of goldsmith’s work, a timeless face and an extremely demonstrative engine..
Italian mechanics 10 times cheaper than a Ferrari, that’s a bargain, no ?
To Seb ….
