She waits, she waits for the F4. Casually, it has not been recast for 8 years. Of course, the engine has been improved and the electronic equipment has been steadily enriched. But the competition is not inactive during this time. Suddenly, she has to rely more and more on her charm and character. And hope; the redesign of the F4 is postponed … until when? The development of a sports car hits the finances of a manufacturer, and strangles the little ones. The current F4 will therefore continue its career for a while; within the volumes and limits that the Euro4 standards will grant it. Always up to date and eternally superb, this hypersport can satisfy many trackers. Take an F4 1000 RR, take out all the Ohlins gear and half a dozen horsepower, change the rims, replace the Brembo M50 calipers with M4 jaws, and here you are roughly in the presence of a “base” F4. A demeaning point of view? Never ! Because even devoid of high-end suspensions and a big top chassis, the Varese hypersport offers something to really enjoy, for almost the price of a Japanese.

We will not go back on the design of the F4, praised and intoxicating for 15 years. We will only focus for a moment on the daytime running light bars placed on the leading edge of the forced air intake. These are not names of equipment manufacturers but certain specificities of MV-Agusta. First, the engine, a particularly vigorous 195 horsepower 4-cylinder engine. It owes its name to the “short stroke” of its pistons. Enclosed as usual in a steel trellis frame fixed to aluminum side plates, this unit knows how to present ardor but also good manners with a nice series of electronic assistance. It is in the debauchery of watts that the MVICS (Motor and Vehicle Integrated Control System) and the ELDOR pack intervene. In the silicon box, a ride by wire and multiple engine maps. You can choose between Rain, Normal, Sport and a fully configurable fourth map. Depending on the mode chosen, the electronic control unit intervenes on the sensitivity of the throttle, the response and the engine brake, the torque, and the maximum speed. So that the control unit “feels” the type of steering, gyroscopes and accelerometers inform it in real time and thus influence the 8-position traction control and anti-wheeling. The shifter is also present on this F4 as is the Bosch 9MP race ABS.

If the machine ignores a few high-class peripherals, that does not mean that the on-board gear is simplistic. Are present the eternal and magnificent single-sided, a 50 mm diameter Marzocchi fork and a Sachs shock absorber with triple settings, forged rims and a lightweight exhaust line..
