News - Dutch company relaunches diesel motorcycle! -

Coming directly from the Netherlands, the Track T-800 CDI motorcycle defies the laws of marketing: this new big trail with original plastic and automatic transmission also adopts an 800 cc three-cylinder… turbo-diesel !

Unliked by users of two-wheelers, the diesel engine nevertheless excites the imagination of certain manufacturers who firmly believe in the attractions of this type of engine, still reserved mainly for vehicles with four wheels and more..

Benefiting from more torque available earlier, diesel units are also more fuelefficient than a gasoline engine: advantages that are certainly welcome, but which are painful – it is little to say! – to trigger enthusiasm in an environment sensitive to performance and nobility inspired by mechanics…

Defying conventional wisdom, the Dutch company E.V.A. Products has just unveiled a new concept based on an 800 cc in-line three-cylinder – a Mercedes Smart engine placed in the direction of the road! – force-fed by a turbo which sends 1.25 bars of pressure.

With a modest power (45 hp from 3000 to 4500 rpm), this trail with a strong look – the front, in particular, should not leave indifferent! – boasts an interesting torque of 100 Nm available from 1,800 rpm: often used in two-wheelers, the expression "tractor torque" takes on its full meaning here !

Not hesitating to defy another taboo of two-wheelers, E.V.A. Products has also retained a continuous automatic transmission type CVT, thus reinforcing the "adventurer-practical" side of the Track T-800 CDI. With its specificities and its khaki variation, would the machine target the – juicy – army markets, as did the M1030M1, this diesel military motorcycle based on the Kawasaki KLR 650 used by the US Marine Corps (read ) ?

Still, the Track T-800 CDI seems well armed – phew! – to stroll in distant lands and in the streets of the "flat country" – where marketing will initially remain confined this year – at a price of around € 18,000. Autonomy is promising with a 22.5-liter tank and above all an average consumption of 2.1 to 2.5 l / 100 km at 90 km / h according to the manufacturer. !

Likewise, the 210mm of travel of the WP suspensions – inverted front fork 48mm in diameter and rear monoshock connected to the single-sided gimbal – should bend with good grace to the needs of an escapade off the beaten track. Obviously – like many large contemporary trails – the Track T-800 will probably prefer rolling paths to goat trails where its 225 kg dry, combined with a wheelbase of 1600 mm, will require work … and strong arms !

Neat, the bike sports a tubular steel frame reinforced with chrome molybdenum – a cycle part very similar to what is practiced at KTM – and is adorned with a dual 310 mm disc with two pistons at the front and a simple 265 mm disc at the rear: it is about being able to control the ardor of the beast, which according to its creators would be able to swallow the 0 to 100 km / h in 3.75 seconds and go up to at 175 km / h !

The fact remains that this new diesel motorcycle risks triggering the ire of enthusiasts – for whom "two-wheelers" rhyme with "unleaded" – and that its salty price, just like its sound and its driving character probably a little bland, will have a lot to do to compete with BMW 1200 GS and other KTM 990 Adventure !

Having said that, who would have bet that the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans Auto event would today be trusted by Peugeot 908 HDI with particle filters and other Audi R 15s? More information and videos on the Dutch site and on the English site .
