Pre-driving report Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth
Japanese-Italian friendship
Yamaha crowns the XSR 900 with the limited XSR 900 Abarth. What the Italian car tuner has to do with it and where the differences lie – please, here are the first impressions after the presentation in Sardinia.
Fiat and Yamaha have been working together on the Japanese MotoGP team since 2007. Abarth is part of the Italian four-wheeler manufacturer, who conjures up emotional whetting irons from Italian automobiles. Yamaha cannot serve with its own tuning department, but the Faster Sons label creates bikes that tickle your stomach and heart just as much as the XSR 900. That was the basis for the cooperation. Twice emotion and exclusivity, the result is that Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth. Its oven-wheeled counterpart is called the Abarth 695 Tributo XSR.
Schedule pushups as training
But back to the two-wheeler. Because the XSR 900 is known as a formidable source of joy in a retro guise, the Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth is completely based on the identical based. In other words: chassis, brakes, engine – everything is the same. This is particularly pleasing because of the crossplane threesome, which answers every power request with a brilliant forward thrust. He lets 115 horses gallop at 10,000 revolutions. But it can not only march tightly at the top, but also inspires in the lower speed range as well as in the middle. Anti-hopping clutch, three different driving modes and an adjustable traction control round off its appearance.
In terms of nonchalance when driving, the Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth has to give up a few springs compared to the standard version. This is mainly due to the new handlebars: From wide and positioned above the upper triple clamp, it has now become quite low and a little deeper in the style of the best sporty cafe racer. Please plan a few push-ups as training.

Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth costs 12,595 euros
The Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth doesn’t fly around the corner as easily as the normal XSR 900. Finding the right line right from the start is difficult. But after a few kilometers you get used to the strenuous sitting position, and the Abarth-XSR also works quickly and at an angle. And if not, then just let your eyes wander: headlight mask, front fender and solo rear bumper made of visible carbon – simply delicious. In addition, there is the sound from the Akrapovic complete system, which ends in two short double flutes. Everything made of titanium and of course approved. That turns on.
But the thing also costs. Yamaha charges 12,595 euros for the XSR 900 Abarth. If you choose them, you have the guarantee of having one of 695 units worldwide (140 units for Germany) in your garage or living room. From the point of view of an emotional work of art, the Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth can almost be considered a bargain.
