The beautiful American manufacturer Indian (Polaris group) adds a new string to its bow with the new Springfield, a cleverly versatile motorcycle thanks to its windshield and its suitcases easily removable without tools, just like the Harley- Davidson .

A Chief between bagger and cruiser

Designed on the basis of, this new Springfield borrows from the luxurious Chieftain its hard-shell suitcases that can be locked from a distance. Like the generous windshield, this luggage can be dismantled in a jiffy in order to go from a motorcycle cut for the felling of bollards in duo to a lighter and more fun machine..

This "lightness" must however be replaced on the scale of the custom, since the Springfield admits all the same 372 kg dry (!), Despite its aluminum frame – a rarity in the category – which incorporates the airbox.

The 20.8 liter tank is identical to other Chiefs, as is the telescopic fork while at the rear the air suspension offers 114 mm of travel.

The front end is slightly "closed" compared to the Bagger Chief Vintage, with a shorter caster and caster angle for the benefit of maneuverability.

Another characteristic specific to the Springfield: its "ox horn" handlebars with the ends curved towards the pilot. The seat height is the same (660mm), while cruise control, ABS, tire pressure gauge and ride-by-wire throttle are fitted as standard. Classy and modern at the same time !

On the mechanical level, the very beautiful 1811cc V-twin discovered on the Chiefs is renewed in its functions, with its 139 Nm of torque from 2600 rpm. Its power is not communicated – as is often the case with custom builders – but must be in the 80 hp, equivalent to performance of the Harley-Davidson Road King (138 Nm of torque).
