MV Agusta reorients its 4-cylinder Brutale 1090 range
Released in 2010, the Brutale 920 did not finally find its customers … MV Agusta therefore decides to increase the displacement – and the price – of its base Brutale. On the contrary, the 1090RR wants to be financially more accessible in 2013. Explanations !
2013: the Brutale 1090 replaces the 920
In the end, it will be simpler: from 2013, the three models of the Brutale 4-cylinder range will be called 1090, 1090 R and 1090 RR! MV Agusta thus abandons its entry level at not – too – expensive: the Brutale 920 (read).
The 1090 available in France and "unveiled" in Milan with the Rivale |
With its 1090, MV Agusta takes the opposite view of small manufacturers, accustomed to presentations of concepts or projects leading to a series model available on the market only many years later: "the new 1090 is arriving in France right now and we are making sure that every dealer has at least one! RRs then Rs will follow", explains the manager of the French network..
"The three Brutale 1090s will be officially unveiled at the Milan Motor Show in a few weeks alongside other major novelties: the Rivale (the famous hypermotard 800, Editor’s note!) which will deserve a look and will go into production in autumn 2013, as well as the F4RR, the best of the best with its piloted suspensions". To follow naturally on Site: strongly Milan ! |
"With the launch on the market in March 2011 of the Brutale 920 at € 11,990, we expected a major increase in consumer interest.", confided us at the beginning of 2012 the head of the brand in France, Claudio Rizzotto (read our."This model caused a lot of ink to flow and aroused many reactions … but sales remained confidential".
"It will certainly take longer to assert our 920", then concluded our interlocutor … And it is clear that the year 2012 did not allow it: MV Agusta has since changed his mind and will resume in 2013 with the Premium, the" real ", via its new base Brutale: the 1090 !
Closely derived from the, the "ten ninety" takes the 4-cylinder 1078 cc as it is, developing a maximum power of 144 horsepower at 10300 rpm and a maximum torque of 112 Nm from 8300 rpm.
"We think that this displacement should attract more bikers, especially French", reveals to us today the head of the brand in France."The name 920 and its capacity may not have pleased. Today, we are offering an 1100 for less than 13,000 euros: we are better armed !"
The 1090 also stings to the "R" the entirety of its cycle part: tubular steel frame, inverted Marzocchi fork of 50 mm adjustable in preload, rebound and compression, aluminum swingarm with Sachs shock absorber adjustable in preload and rebound, 310mm front rotors and 4-piston Brembo radial calipers, 210mm rear disc and Nissin 4-piston calipers.
The Brutale 1090 RR, meanwhile, retains some of its specificities: engine pushed to 158 hp (but 100 Nm in return), adjustable damping in preload, rebound and compression (two speeds!), Front discs of 320 mm and Brembo monobloc with 34 mm pistons (32 on the other two models).
This extreme version also retains its high level of finish: "the trellis frame is always welded using the TIG process and not MAG, which requires four hours of work instead of three but leads to an irreproachable result", explains Claudio Rizotto.
"Despite everything, we wanted to make an effort on the price by involving all our partners, dealers, suppliers, etc..", he continues. Thus, the Brutale 1090 RR sees its price drop from nearly 2,000 euros to 16,990 €.
The all new rims – "1.5 kg lighter than the previous ones"-, the redesigned front fender and the new outwardly beveled pots"in the style of American dragsters"are part of the original endowment of all Brutales, including the" small " !
The daytime running lights that adorn the screen, the new rear light and the new metal license plate holder are all new features for 2013 present on the entire Brutale 4-cylinder range..
The turn signals integrated into the mirrors, however present on the 920 fire, are only fitted on the "R" and "RR" versions, just like the new rear LED indicators. The gray tint of the engine – and red cylinder head! – is also only available on the two "R" versions.
To further legitimize the difference of 1000 euros between the standard version and the R, then the 3000 euros between the R and the RR, the paints differ: matt colors for the first and metallic for the second, bitons colors for the third…
Colors and prices of the 2013 Brutale 1090 range
- 1090 : Matt black, Matt Pearl White or Matt gray (€ 12,990)
- 1090 R : Metallic black, Pastel red or Silver (€ 13,990)
- 1090 RR : Pastel red / Silver, Metallic gold / Pearl white or Metallic blue / Pearl white (€ 16,990)
Please note: the prices above are the "ex-factory" prices, as was that of the Brutale 675. For the record, when the "B3" was launched, MV Agusta officials indicated to Site that French buyers should provide a sum of around 400 euros to pay the packaging and transport costs (read our).
