News - Style study and new roadster: BMW surprises in Italy! - Lo Rider style study: sleek look for an à la carte motorcycle!

After its national show in Cologne, where the new 1300 series and the S1000RR caused a sensation, BMW arrives in Milan with two new surprises: a roadster version of the F800 series and a concept both enticing and surprising, called Lo Rider..

Lo Rider style study: sleek look for an à la carte motorcycle !

With its style study called Lo Rider, BMW is investing an interesting niche of customization of its motorcycle according to the desires – and the means – of its owner: surprising and reduced to the essentials, this roadster with pure and minimalist lines has an assertive character. between the scrambler and the custom, which clashes with the usual more functional pencil stroke of the brand.

BMW Motorrad announces reduced weight, powerful engine "to the full-bodied couple and a cycle part "with refined technique for this concept presented in preview in Milan and whose degree of progress suggests a possible start of production: "it is first of all a question of gauging the reactions of the public, BMW Motorrad France assures us, specifying however that "the concept of customizable vehicles could be applied to future road motorcycles of the brand, as proposed by the Mini, owned by BMW.

Low profile and pretty well off in terms of peripherals – Ohlins suspensions, Tokiko six-piston calipers pinching a massive disc Wave at the front -, the Lo Rider mixes the classicism dear to the brand – Boxer engine, "100% BMW" commodos, cardan transmission and Paralever-type swingarm – and a cheerful touch of modernity such as the tubular lattice-type frame , the two lenticular lights – optionally replaceable by a more conventional element – while the tiny rear element and the tapered indicators adopt diodes.

A real "à la carte" motorcycle, this attractive prototype allows its purchaser to choose between a high or low exhaust line, a single or two-seater saddle – or even an aluminum seat cowl -, a tank with or without aluminum trim ( four colors possible), three engine color variants (!), a classic optical assembly or Strettfighter and black or chrome front and rear fenders !

According to BMW, these unique and multiple customizations "allow the character of the vehicle to be fully adapted to the personal taste of the customer, who can thus have fun putting together their bike according to their own ideas, from the cool cruiser to the aggressive "muscle bike"". A daring initiative, far from the conformism that is usually attributed to the brand, even if it is true that the technological solutions and certain aesthetic characteristics adopted on many BMWs affirm day after day an obvious desire to stand out from the car. competition.

Equipped with 17-inch wheels, the Lo Rider skillfully combines elements that marked the style of motorcycles of the 50s and 60s, such as the minimalist and low saddle, the type exhaust line. side pipe in the low position, while the exhaust in the raised position directly evokes racing motorcycles on rings and other scramblers. Driven by the latest version of the Boxer developing a little over 100 hp, equipped with HC (High Camshaft) type camshafts, electronic injection and a pollution control system, the Lo Rider combines a stroke of the pencil apart from a mechanical behavior which promises to be efficient and distinctive.

Ultimately, if this study draws lightly on past references, the mix of genres and the quality of the production are challenging! Especially since David Robb, style director at BMW Motorrad, received very clear instructions: "every conceivable possible combination of these components had to lead each time to a completely different character, but always absolutely harmonious in itself", specifies the manufacturer.

As for the Yamaha MT-01, BMW offers – already! – a whole range of equipment dedicated to the Lo Rider: a classic leather jacket, jeans with protections, boots, gloves and jet and full-face helmets in the style of the time, etc. Attention to detail that says a lot about the possible commercial reality of this study, even if everything will depend on the public’s reaction … and therefore on your comments !
