Yamaha T7: it works for the trail based on MT-07 !
Good news: the development of the new Yamaha T7 is on track, to the point of having been tested in its prototype version! Bad news: MNC was not among the lucky few to have tried this salivating trail designed from an MT-07… which does not prevent us from having gleaned some information about it !
Since its presentation at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan (Italy), it has spilled much ink … and billions of bytes! This trail, which revolves around a new chassis and the vertical twin of the (75 hp on the roadster), is in line with the legendary XT600Z Tenere from 1984: a light, powerful and very rally-style motorcycle All Terrain.
- MNC of 8 November 2016 : The Yamaha T7 concept in the footsteps of the XTZ600 Tenere
"The world of adventure needs a new type of motorcycle capable of offering real versatility over long distances, reliability identical to that of the original Tenere and a contemporary look associated with an engine and chassis. cutting edge ", explained last fall Yamaha, which is more or less inspired by the approach successfully followed by Honda and its .
Like the winged blazon, Yamaha wants to offer a more accessible and more distinctive alternative to maxi-trails "maxi-expensive and maxi-bulky". And like its compatriot, even more, Yamaha with its T7 emphasizes off-road capabilities, now relegated to the background in the trail category. Let it be said: the new Tenere will rely on generous non-bitumen skills, and not just on its suggestive look !
Because this new T7 does indeed look great with its aluminum tank, its 21-inch spoke front rim and its Kayaba suspensions with very high travel. Its original headlight plate pierced with four LEDs also contributes greatly to its visual impact, as do its nipple tires, its hand guards and its Akrapovic silencer raised as on rally-raid motorcycles..
The T7 prototype briefly tested
Aware of the interest aroused by this eagerly awaited novelty, Yamaha is working hard to be able to present its production T7 at the next motorcycle shows: a handful of "happy fews" have even been able to complete a few laps on the handlebars. ‘a development version on an off-road track near Paris. Unfortunately, MNC was not one of the guests, unlike a certain Stephane Peterhansel who gives his impressions in the video below !
"The bike only stayed one day in France and the limited number of places granted by Japan to test it, as well as the very marked off-road orientation of T7, had originally led us to favor the off-road press ”, replies Alexandre Kowalski, competition director at Yamaha Motor France. MNC deeply regrets having missed out on the T7, especially as two “100% bitumen” titles have finally been added to the list! But hey, let’s move on…
Pressed for questions from the Journal moto du Net, the French leader explains to us that this tested version was a prototype: "in fact, Japan sent us the T7 that you saw in Milan, that is to say the "zero" model on which our engineers are working directly. A motorcycle well advanced and in working order, but not yet at the stage of production ", he reveals to us..
This means that if the general look imagined by GK Design should not experience any major alterations between this proto and its production version planned for 2018, several parts risk on the other hand changing between now and the production phase. MNC thinks in particular of the fairings and the carbon shoe, certainly very chic and ultra-light but far too expensive to manufacture – as to change in case of breakage – to install it on a production motorcycle. !
The configuration of the twin "CP2" snatched from the MT-07 would be frozen, thanks among other things to several adjustments to the injection, the intake and the exhaust which aim to promote low and mid-range torque ( a strong point already on the roadster). The same goes for the tubular frame, specific to the T7, and the swingarm whose length reveals an obvious search for traction..
We can’t wait for the next Milan show, where this new Yamaha T7 will probably be unveiled. Unless the crest of Iwata chooses to present it in Paris, during the, as it had done 34 years ago with the XT660Z Tenere ?! Stay connected !
