Zero motorcycles in 2012: it’s going to watter !
Forget the clumsy appearance of the Zero Motorcycles, their top speed of around 100 km / h and their range of up to 80 km: Californian electric motorcycles receive new looks and new batteries in 2012 !
The small company based in Santa Cruz (California) is formal: in 2012 its range will consist of "models now equipped with a revolutionary powertrain, and capable of offering a range of over 183 km, a battery designed to last the life of the motorcycle and top speeds of up to 140 km / h" !
New performances, however, reserved for the brand’s road models – the S "Supermotard" and the DS "Dual Sport" – judiciously underlined by their new, more contemporary lines. The new headlight in particular, gives these Americans a more dynamic "Austrian" air.
For the first time in history, therefore, a "electric motorcycle produced in series and immediately available in concession, is capable of exceeding 165 km of autonomy with a single charge ", solemnly announces Scot Harden, Vice President of International Marketing of Zero Motorcycles.
According to studies conducted by the American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Zero S is even capable of offering a range of 183 km with the 9 kWh battery (count 122 km with the Zero S equipped with the 6 kWh battery).
140 km / h maximum and 183 km of autonomy
Retaining their Z-Force designation, these batteries use "a new type of cells and an unprecedented configuration that offer up to 95% more energy density and can withstand up to 3000 charge cycles, before their capacities degrade by 20%".
"In other words", the Americans translate nicely,"the Zero S can travel up to 495,000 km with the same battery before its capacities represent only 80% of its original capacities".
At the same time, the Zero DS and S see their respective top speeds significantly improved: 128 km / h for the "trail" and downright 141 km / h for the Supermot ‘! What to send on the departmental ?!
Naturally, the latest XU model and the X and MX versions also benefit from improvements for the coming year … Thus the most urban of the bunch (XU) receives, like the Zero S and Zero DS , a belt transmission.
The enduro specialist (model X), is "now available exclusively with a lighting system and road homologation", warns the manufacturer."With an increase in power of 33% and a range increased by 75%, it now uses the same engine as the Zero MX, which has already proven itself in competition.".
The "crosseur" precisely (the MX), is now "exclusively available in off-road version (not approved for road)"and also offers more power and stronger acceleration as well as higher top speeds.
Less obvious to detect than on road models, the "brand new design (of the two all-terrain models, Editor’s note) highlights the new sportier features".
