BMW Motorrad works on a variable valve Big Boxer…
The future S1000RR was not the only new BMW to make the front page of the last issue of Motorrad Magazin: a new version of the flat-twin, increased to 1250 cc and equipped with variable valve timing, would also be in development….
If we are to believe Motorrad Magazin, the DVT released in 2015 will soon no longer be the only maxitrail maxisportif to have a variable distribution system: the R1200GS – as well as its sisters RT, RS and R – is about to receive the mention "VVT" (Variable Valve Timing).
The Boxer, which made the front page of the magazine of our German colleagues alongside the ("Zukunft" in German), would moreover not be satisfied with varying its strokes: it would also consolidate them via a not insignificant increase in its displacement of 80 cc: 1250 cc instead of the current 1170.
The Bavarian firm which nevertheless already offers the very powerful (160 hp and 112 Nm), thus seeks to increase the power and maximum torque of its "Fleet-Twin" which had crossed this year without incident – and with small improvements – the obstacles of the Euro4 anti-pollution and anti-noise standard.
To date as a reminder, the engine of the "Gueesse" develops 125 horsepower and 125 Nm. For comparison, the new and its Twin "LC8" spits 160 hp and 140 Nm, against 160 hp and 136 Nm for the Multi and sound "Testastretta 11 ° DVT".
Will BMW Motorrad’s new "Big Boxer" be unveiled at Eicma 2017 next November? Will he wait for "his" Cologne show in October 2018? It’s more likely: a few days ago, BMW presented and introduced its optional high-tech instrumentation … To be continued on Site: stay tuned !
