The Prefecture of Police tests an all-terrain electric motorcycle
As part of testing new equipment for police officers, the Police Headquarters on Monday experimented with an all-terrain electric motorcycle, the Swiss-made Quantya Track 48V. Or when safety rhymes with environment…
The Prefecture of Police proceeded Monday, on the site of Montlhery (91), to tests of an all-terrain electric motorcycle of the Swiss brand Quantya.
"It all started on National Motorcycle and Scooter Day", explains to Site Claude Delumeau, whose company TCAP works directly with the Swiss manufacturer Quantya to take over from the French importer..
"People from the Prefecture came to see us at our stand, they seemed interested and last Monday we made them try the Quantya Track 48V", continues Mr. Delumeau who, when he is not going to race old cars with his Honda 500 NSR, manufactures electric agricultural quads in his garage near Niort (79).
The test session took place in real conditions at the Montlhery site (91), where Captain Bernier and his men were able to test the cross model of the Quantya range under the aegis of the motorcycle school of the operational management. technical and logistical services. "Tests have shown that this non-polluting electric motorcycle meets the trainers’ requirements.", rejoices the Prefecture, specifying that"this motorcycle could be called upon to replace those currently in use"…
The Quantya 48V is available in two versions: an approved road version, the Strada 48V – "that I use every day", specifies Mr. Delumeau – and a cross version, the Track 48V tested by the Prefecture of Police. The two motorcycles, with a power equivalent to that of a 125 cc and a weight of 90 kg, offer a battery life of 3 hours, while the full battery charge time is 1h30.

In occasional but daily use, Claude Delumeau says he only recharges his motorcycle "every two weeks, and it only costs me 1.20 euro for 5 hours of use !"A strong argument against a liter of 95 to 1.50 euros, not to mention the non-existent polluting emissions !
A more powerful version of 72 volts is planned for the course of 2009, which will be comparable to a displacement "of about 300 cc, for which you will have to pass the motorcycle license".
The Quantya Strada 48V, built on a Husqvarna frame, is fitted with a Sachs shock absorber and a Marzocchi fork. Braking is done on the handlebars only (like on a bicycle) and there are no gears to change.
Sold mainly in Switzerland, Germany and Austria for two years, it is currently offered for more than 9000 euros in France … But "I will do my best with the manufacturer in Switzerland to lower it to around 8000 euros", promises Site Claude Delumeau. A case to follow closely … while waiting for the test on Site. Stay connected !
