EICMA management resigns

Surprise in Milan: Despite the extremely positive results of the last Milan trade fair, all members of the Board of Management have announced their resignation, including EICMA President Andrea dell’Orto.

Something like this is rare: the management first announces the best result in the company’s history – and then closes the gap. This is what happened at the end of last week at EICMA, Europe’s largest two-wheeler trade fair, which takes place every autumn in Milan and, according to the organizers, had almost 800,000 visitors in 2019. The EICMA bosses initially announced a record result for 2019: the trade fair made over 17 million euros in sales last year, 21 percent more than in 2018 and more than ever before. At just under 775,000 euros, the profit was the highest in the last ten years.

Manufacturers’ association puts pressure

But instead of being celebrated for this result, the board members – President Andrea dell’Orto (Dell’Orto carburetors and injection systems), Corrado Capelli (Caberg helmets), Vito Cicchetti (Honda), Alfio Morone (Adler clutches) and Giovanni Castiglioni (MV Agusta) – closed their early resignation. In a press release it is said that this decision was made with the greatest regret, “under the continuing pressure of the new board of directors of the manufacturers’ association ANCMA.” Particularly in view of the current global crisis, the statement continues, EICMA would have liked to be guaranteed continuity, the impossibility but have to see this plan.

One can only speculate about the reasons for the apparent rift between ANCMA and EICMA. The ball now lies with the Italian manufacturers’ association ANCMA, which has to install a new management team for EICMA as soon as possible.
