Road rallies - FFM annual congress: all you need to know about motorcycle road rallies 2017 -

During the annual congress of the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) this weekend in Merignac (33), the committees of the various disciplines of motorcycle sport established the 2017 race calendars and refined the regulations.. Update on road rallies 2017.

It is in Merignac (33) that the FFM committees met this year, notably with the National Road Rally Commission which has changed the discipline’s regulations and established the rally calendar for 2017..

Because the readers of MNC know it better than anyone: the does not fall asleep on its laurels and continues its progression with no less than eight events scheduled for 2017.

2017 French road rally championship calendar

  1. March 18 and 19: Rallye des Garrigues in Laverune (34)
  2. March 31 and April 1: Rallye de la Sarthe in La Suze (72)
  3. April 21 and 22: Rallye de Corse in Porticcio (2A)
  4. May 13 and 14: Beaujolais Rally in Blace (69)
  5. May 27 and 28: Rallye des Ardennes in Sedan (08)
  6. June 17 and 18: Rallye de l’Ain in Cerdon (01)
  7. July 21 and 22: Rallye du Dourdou in Villecomtal (12)
  8. September 9 and 10: Rallye de l’Ardèche à Mauves (07)

Regarding the classification for the championship, the drivers will be classified on their 12 best stages, knowing that one event is equivalent to two stages (day + night). A rich program which will therefore not leave on the sidelines the competitors who cannot follow the championship in its entirety, since four "misses" (or two failed events) are authorized..

Little change on the regulatory side, other than the creation of a formula launched and successfully tested on the last one. In 2017, it will therefore be possible to participate in one event (or the entire championship) with a passenger. The driver is the only one to score points in his category for the scratch championship and that of his displacement, but the complete crew is counted for the presentation of a trophy..

New categories 2017

The categories were revised because it had become necessary, for a better valuation of the titles obtained, to reduce the number of categories (10 in 2016!). The national road rally commission has therefore worked (under the chairmanship of Gilles Planchon-Tourly!) On the problem and four categories emerge for modern motorcycles and two for "old" ones..

  • Rally 1: twin cylinders over 700 cc, three, four or six cylinders over 500 cc and homologated machines over 125 cc
  • Rally 2: twin cylinders over 500 cc and less than 700 cc, single cylinders over 400 cc and scooters over 125 cc
  • Rally 3: 125 (2 and 4-stroke), single cylinders less than 400 cc and multicylinders less than 500 cc. In this category, a 125 Open trophy will be awarded to single cylinders and scooters under 125 cc
  • Side-cars
  • Classics: approvals between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1992
  • Old: approvals between January 1, 1955 and December 31, 1979

The best Women, Veterans (over 50 years old), Espoir (under 28 years old having never obtained a title of champion of France in any motorcycle discipline whatsoever) and Duos will be rewarded with a trophy of France.

The rally commission, recently renewed with David Bournisien, Jean-Luc Vieilleville and Nils Moulins alongside Jacky Guillemoz, Pierre Derrien and Alain Tourniayre, remains chaired by Gilles Planchon-Tourly who is renewing his mandate, to the great satisfaction of the president of the FFM, Jacques Bolle, recently .

Road rally, the parent discipline of motorbike sport in France, is therefore on the right track and promises an exceptional 2017 season to follow on MNC: stay tuned !
