Road rallies - Patrick Curtat wins the Ultimate Rally 2009! - 2009 review, 2010 rankings and outlook

After the application of (multiple!) Penalties, it was finally Patrick Curtat who won this first edition of the Ultimate Rally 2009 ahead of Nicolas Derrien and David Morgan. Back on this last crazy day !

2009 review, rankings and 2010 outlook

After this first edition of the Ultimate Rally – a new “old-fashioned” rally won by an “old”, Patrick Curtat -, the organizer Patrick Bournisien is already thinking of a next edition by erasing the “too many” and the “ not enough "… Assessment and outlook !

"Originally, the goal was not to eliminate as many pilots from the start but to make a hard rally, in the old way, where the linkage parts are not there to only make mileage but to weigh in the race classification", explains to Site Patrick Bournisien, organizer of this first Ultimate Rally (see also our video interview opposite).

At the time of the assessment, it seems desirable that this first link be shortened, by lengthening the break between the arrival in the central city and the start of the lap race, just to make the event more secure..

Because for this first edition, only 35 drivers – out of nearly 180 registered! – achieved the feat of crossing the classified finish line, after completing the entire Ultimate rally 2009 !

A real achievement for each of them and in particular for Patrick Curtat, not only a remarkable driver but also an emblematic figure of the rally world: "I really shit serious from serious !", he exclaims from the top step of the podium,"I even thought of burning the bike about fifteen kilometers from the finish so I was fed up … Still, this is the first time that I find myself perched on this first step !"

The Ultimate Rally is therefore a "real" road rally that goes back to the origins of the discipline, when tight connections required a sustained pace and concentration. This does not necessarily mean "driving at crazy speeds", because the "quality" of the roads taken does not often allow to exceed 90 km / h !
