Road rallies - Rallye des Garrigues: Toniutti already in tune! - A short night stop ...

Let’s go for the French rally championship 2014! Despite strong Corsican resistance and in difficult conditions, Julien Toniutti reiterates his 2013 victory, thus offering his first victory to his new Yamaha MT-09. Story.

A short night stopover…

It leaves for the night! Finally, for the evening rather, with a departure at 9 p.m. and a single loop of 100 terminals to do. If all goes well for everyone, the 90 starting riders for this night stage will be back well before one in the morning. !

Fortunately, it is not raining and the road has dried up again. We focus a little to get on time in Murles, and let’s go for the first night special.

There, it was Florent Derrien on his KTM 690 SM who took down the ponpon in 1 ‘49.48. Julien Toniutti’s Yamaha MT-09 achieved the second fastest time, four tenths behind in 1 ‘49.88. Bruno Schiltz gets the third fastest time in 1 ‘50.67.

Yohann Vigilenti finished here in eighth place in 1 ‘53.55. At this Murles special, Julien Toniutti took almost 4 seconds from him: everything should have been decided in the last special of the rally, but since the start of the night stage, Yohann Vigilenti felt that the engine of his Husaberg 570 FS was not was not behaving normally and made an unusual noise … A few kilometers from the second special of this night loop, Yohann gave up, engine broken.

Last special of the rally, in Murviel les Montpellier, Julien Toniutti concluded this rally with a better time (1 ‘12.14) and won the rally riding the Yamaha MT-09 of Team 2B. The second fastest time goes to Florent Derrien (1 ‘13.65) riding his KTM 690 SM. Bruno Schiltz’s KTM 690 Duke R is third in 1 ‘14.87.

The classification is the same for the night stage but in the rally general, Julien Toniutti wins ahead of Benoit Nimis and his Yamaha 450 YZF. The third step of the podium is climbed by Laurent Filleton at the controls of an Aprilia Tuono.

The rest of the championship promises to be eventful: the next event, the Sarthe rally, at La Suze (72) on April 12 and 13, where the rankings will certainly be refined, notably with Franck Coudert….

Winner of the Sarthe rally last year (read) and eleventh in this 2014 Garrigues rally, Franck will be able to use his Ducati 1199 Panigale better on the Bugatti circuit than he was able to do on the small slippery roads of this first rally of the championship.

The excellent Thibaut Bernard (21st Scratch and 3rd Topsport) is starting to gain more confidence on the handlebars of his Triumph 675 Daytona and will also be closely watched..

For Julien Toniutti, things may not be simple with the serious competition represented by the top Corsican drivers Luc Deiana and Yohann Vigilenti. But the Yam ‘rider is more than motivated to lead the Yamaha MT-09 "Team 2B" to the supreme title. !

See you in less than three weeks for the second round of the 2014 French road rally championship, stay tuned !
