Brake calipers can corrode

The Indian motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has to recall around 15,200 Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 and Himalayan motorcycles worldwide. There may be a problem with the brake.

As Royal Enfield reports, the brake calipers can corrode due to the influence of road salt in winter operation. Corrosion can damage the caliper piston bore. As a result, this could lead to an unusual braking noise, increased braking resistance and, in exceptional cases, an impairment of the braking effect.

Royal Enfield also installs brake calipers from Brembo subsidiary Bybre on its models, which already caused a problem of the same kind on the BMW models G 310 R and G 310 GS as well as the two scooters C 400 GT and C 400 X. BMW also had the affected models call back and check. The MOTORRAD endurance test BMW G 310 R was also affected by this problem on the rear brake.
