A new model of automatic speed camera is appearing on the roadside: double-sided speed camera! Because for better puncture ensure the safety of motorcyclists and motorists, the government has undertaken "the modernization of the fleet of radars" … It’s Christmas !

Bikers in the double-sided viewfinder

"Today, around 38% of the infringement messages cannot be used, which contributes to leaving a certain number of infringers with impunity because their license plate could not be read", bitterly regrets the Security road.

These regrets are all the more keen as compared to the total of 708 million euros generated by the radars last year, this "impunity" also represents – who said above all? – a shortfall of 269 million euros! "By flashing from the front and the rear, the rate of clarification of offenses will be improved and this will help to treat road users more equitably", underlines Road Safety, almost openly targeting bikers, who have no plates at the front and therefore cannot be racketeering protected only from behind…

Finally, "the photograph of the passenger compartment of a vehicle taken from the front will make it possible to empower users of heavy and light vehicles and more particularly those who are tempted to make a false declaration on the identity of the person behind the wheel at the wheel. moment of the offense ", warns the government body, obviously concerned with protecting the license of the grandmother who no longer drives since the appearance of color TV and agreed to lose the points of the whole family…

A first "double-sided" radar is thus installed from today "for experimentation" on the departmental n ° 301 in the Rhône (69).

Rhône, Gironde and Alpes-Maritimes

"This equipment detects and photographs from the front and from the rear vehicles of all types traveling above the authorized speed limit", raves the Road Safety which is preparing to test two types of "double-sided" radars: a single cab model and a double cab model.

The "Flash Cool" double effect

The single cab model (below) is equipped with two optics oriented differently but united in the same equipment: the first optic flashes the vehicle from the front, then the second gives a layer to be sure by picking it up from the front. ‘back…

For its part, the double cab model (below) photographs the offending vehicle twice simultaneously: the first equipment is coupled to a second device – "placed on a mast", specifies Road Safety – located a few tens of meters.

Developing children’s motorcycle helmets

The National Road Safety Council (CNSR), which issues suggestions supposed to improve road safety, recommended Monday during its plenary session to "upgrade motorcycle helmets to adapt them to children".

The E22-05 helmet homologation standard could thus evolve by the introduction of tests that are differentiated according to age, while a campaign could be implemented to recall good practices in terms of transporting children on a motor two-wheeler.

The CNSR also advised to improve the identification and treatment of roadside obstacles to save "150 lives per year".

The experiment will continue in January 2015 on the departmental road n ° 6 in Lacanau (33) with the same model as that installed today in the Rhône (single cabin), then the double cabin model will be tested "from January 2015 "on the departmental n ° 137 in Saint-Laurent d’Arce, still in Gironde, as well as on the departmental n ° 6098 in Nice (06).

"This material is not yet approved, no report will be drawn up during the experiment", reassures Road Safety which has planned to test its new toys for "3 months renewable if necessary". Hopefully our security will not be threatened too much during these long months without verbalization…

But that the most worried be reassured: "if the results of the experiment prove to be conclusive, a deployment market could be launched in 2016", promises the government.
