The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has just announced the launch of an electric motorcycle championship which will take place next season as the opening of four prestigious endurance races: the FIM e-Power International Championship "will begin on April 18, 2010 at the opening of the 24 Hours Motorcycle of Le Mans to end in mid-November during the 8 Hours of Doha (Qatar).

"The details of this championship will be communicated in the coming weeks and other dates should be added to the provisional 2010 calendar," said Claude Danis, President of the FIM Road Racing Commission..

As part of an "agreement with the United Nations Environment Program", the FIM sets up every year "initiatives to raise awareness among the motorcycling world and remind people of our duty towards our planet", underlined Vito Ippolito, president. of the FIM.

Provisional calendar of the FIM e-Power International Championship

  • April 18 – Le Mans (France): opening of the 24 Heures Moto du Mans
  • May 22 – Albacete (Spain): opening of the 8 hours of Albacete
  • September 12 – Magny-Cours (France): opening of the Bol d’Or
  • November 14 – Doha (Qatar): opening of the 8 hours of Doha
