As reported by the Japanese racing team, Rins fell during a training lap on his racing bike and suffered an injury including a bruise on his right arm, which caused the Spaniard severe pain.
The examination in the hospital revealed a fracture of the spoke that is to be operated on and fixed on Friday. the bone is to be fixed with two screws. The doctors do not want to give a prognosis about the duration of the recovery.
“It’s a shame what happened today. I really wanted to race here in Montmeló and put in a solid performance so that I could get back on track after some tough races. Tomorrow I will have an operation and then we will talk about when to recover. We will definitely work hard to get the feeling back asap and try to get back quickly. I don’t know yet if I’m ready for the German GP, but I’ll work hard to be fit by then”, explains Alex Rins.
Suzuki does not nominate a replacement driver
“This injury comes at a very bad time because we felt ready to fight in good shape again here in Catalonia. We hope Joan Mir can get a great result this weekend, but of course we will miss Alex – we all wish him a good operation, a speedy recovery and a speedy return”, said Shinichi Sahara – project manager and team leader.
Suzuki does without a replacement driver for Alex Rins at the GP Catalunya. However, Sylvain Guintoli will drive as planned for the test on Monday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
