Videos, statements and analysis from WSBK to Miller
The fifth round of the 2011 World SBK was contested last night in Miller. To complement our live reports, here are the Superbike riders’ statements, our analyzes and the video summaries of the Superbike races..
Miller World Superbike Analysis
Max Biaggi Himself recognized him when he got off his No.1 Aprilia: Carlos Checa was simply unbeatable last night on the track at Miller Motorsport Park !
Last year already, the Spaniard would have amply deserved the double in the United States (read), but his Ducati 1098R prepared by the competent team Althea deprived him of a happiness he had already tasted two years before on Ten Kate’s Honda CBR1000RR…
Because whatever the bike, Carlos has always turned very well to Miller. In 2008, on the occasion of the great return of the WSBK on American soil, El Torro had largely dominated the debates on the track in Salt Lake City, even pushing the future triple world champion Troy Bayliss to the fault (read).
The following year, still on Fireblade, Checa had to lose in Superpole then in the first round against the local of the stage – and future world champion 2009 – Ben Spies, but occupied a solid 2nd place. A little too much in the second heat, Carlos had planted his engine crankcase in one of the curbs on the track – like Melandri this year! – and had to give up (read)..
In 2011, braving the rain in qualifying then particularly sharp opponents in the race, the famous n ° 7 won with style. In the second round in particular, the Ducati rider literally knocked out the competition from the start of the race. !
Author of the pole, the fastest lap in the race – his 2010 record remains valid nonetheless – and winner by KO of the two American rounds, Carlos Checa perfectly negotiated this fifth test to significantly increase his lead: 61 points over Melandri and 62 over Biaggi !
Second best driver of this meeting across the Atlantic, Leon Camier identically reproduces his performance last year: 4th and 2nd! With his 33 additional points collected at Miller, the Englishman steals from poor Fabrizio – mown by Xaus in the first round – his 7th place overall.
But Aprilia’s n ° 2 has the potential to do even better! His teammate Biaggi showed last year how Aprilia can dominate the planet Superbike. This year, the Transalpine seems somewhat disoriented: by the Ducati n ° 7, certainly, but perhaps also by the success ?!
There are already ten races contested this year, and not a single one has yet been won by Max … The Superbike Pirate has not lost any of his speed on the track, but he has shown surprising excitement in some sleeves, even an unforgivable inattention, as in Monza (read), for a reigning world champion…
Fortunately, if his victory meter is stuck at zero, his morale is not in the least! On his personal website – with much tastier content than his wise official end-of-race declarations – the Italian allows himself to send a little personal message to Jonathan Rea, with whom he clung from the first lap of the race. first run…
"I read here and there that Rea thought he was within his rights and that I had caused the fall … unbelievable! I really want to give him some advice, and I hope he will accept it: Sometimes, acknowledging your wrongs allows you to grow and be esteemed by your peers". CQFD: The Roman Emperor has lost none of his ardor! We can bet that it will allow him, in two weeks in Misano, to defend his number 1 plate with even more firmness … but on the track !
On the other hand, Johnny continues to be brooding: just a few minutes after his fall in the first round, the young Englishman subtly blurted out on his Tweeter: "it was promising until I got Simoncellized !"…
The two days of testing last week did not ultimately allow Jonathan and his Ten Kate team to properly tune the Honda CBR1000RR. But his teammate Ruben Xaus had an even darker weekend: starting twice at the fault, the n ° 111 did not register a single point last night…
Five points, so that’s all that the world’s leading manufacturer in the United States grabs … Wouldn’t the time have come for the Reds to release a new Fireblade, inspired – as it should be – by the RCV of MotoGP which currently dominates the premier class ?
As in 2010, the American event, generally more smiled on European motorcycles. The Italians, in particular, have done well: in addition to the Ducati de Checa, we find on the podium of Miller the Ducati of Smrz and Guintoli, then the Aprilia of Camier and Biaggi !
Only three Japanese entered the Top 10 in the first round and four in the second … And twice, the "best representative of the Japanese" is none other than the young Eugene Laverty. After the n ° 19 of Spies in 2009 and the n ° 35 Crutchlow in 2010, Yamaha seems to have found quite a number this year: the n ° 58, to remember !
At BMW too, while we naturally expected a lot from Haslam (2nd last year on GSX-R) and Corser (twice 5th on the S1000RR), it is a rookie who plays the leader in the person not of James Toseland, injured, but of Ayrton Badovini !
Rather than a revelation – the n ° 86 is Superstock 1000 champion with Behème and rode hard at Monza three weeks ago (read again) – Ayrton’s performance is a nice confirmation of the hopes that the german brand.
Supposed to launch once and for all the S1000RR to the conquest of a first world title, Leon Haslam again missed his weekend, turning in race one second of his teammate Troy Corser – again started as a rocket but unable to go the distance -, and nearly two seconds behind the winner Carlos Checa !
The Munich firm should not be discouraged, however: in addition to the rise of Badovini in the World Superbike, the S1000RR won its first international victory last week at the 8 Hours of Albacete thanks to the French team of ‘Endurance, and this weekend reinforced his domination in the French Superbike Championship with Sebastien Gimbert and Erwan Nigon (read).
In addition, the next World Superbike event will be held in Misano: it is on this Italian track that Troy Corser took the first – and only for the moment – pole position of the Munich bomb last year, then climbed a second. podium (read).
Finally, how can we not congratulate our two French riders: Sylvain Guintoli climbed on his first World Superbike podium and Maxime Berger also recorded his best result (11th) in this category that he is only discovering! Next meeting on June 12 in Misano: stay tuned !
