The Superbike and Supersport races contested this Sunday in Aragon were beautiful ! If Biaggi, Lowes and Melandri win, it’s not without difficulty and without suspense: MNC tells you everything…

In Superbike, Max Biaggi offered for his 41 years the first round this afternoon on the Spanish circuit. Like last year, Marco Melandri follows him closely on the podium. Checa climbs on the 3rd step of the podium: a gift from Badovini !

In the second round, Melandri takes over from Biaggi (as in 2011, read MNC) but had to fight to the end to get ahead of the three Aprilia on the field: those of Laverty, Davies and Biaggi … Yes, in that order specific !

Finally, in Supersport, if Kenan Sofuoglu actually passed the checkered flag first, a penalty relegates him to 5th place … It is therefore Sam Lowes who wins the 600 cc event ahead of Fabien Foret and Sheridan Morais !

First Superbike race

Tom Sykes takes advantage of his sixth pole to take the lead in the first braking. Behind it is the crowd: several pilots find themselves on the ground from the first turn! Rea, Guintoli and Baz are among the jostled and leave good last.

Tom Sykes escapes in the lead ahead of Eugene Laverty, Max Biaggi, Marco Melandri, Davide Giugliano, Chaz Davies Leon Haslam, Carlos Checa, Ayrton Badovini and Leon Camier…

Laverty takes the lead in the pit straight! Biaggi follows Sykes closely but the Italian is himself pursued by Melandri and Giugliano! Carlos Checa does a hell of a job at the start of the race and manages to get in the wheel of his Italian teammate Davide.

The No. 34 must give up his 5th place to the reigning world champion No. 7 in the huge braking at the end of the straight line. Like Laverty before him, Biaggi passed Sykes in full acceleration in front of the pits. Melandri lodges immediately at the Sykes backsplash…

Davies and his private RSV4 try an interior on Giugliano and his "semi-official" 1198 but has to stay behind the Ducati on the next turn. At the same time, Biaggi takes the lead in the race and dumps his teammate.

Melandri passes Sykes on the 4th lap. Marco then passed Laverty but the Irishman did not give way and recovered his second place. A few turns later, however, Melandri locks his attack into the heavy braking of the long straight and leaves Eugene with Tom and Carlos..

Chaz Davies is just a second behind Carlos Checa, and Ayrton Badovini does not leave him with a tire! Davide Giugliano, Leon Haslam and Lorenzo Zanetti are much further, more than five seconds behind the Welshman and his Aprilia n ° 19.

In front of Max Biaggi separates himself from his little comrades: in the 6th lap, the Roman Emperor – current leader of the championship – has 1.4 seconds ahead of his enemy n ° 33. Laverty himself is left behind by Marco and always precedes Sykes and Checa.

Maxime Berger is our first representative: he is in 15th position, just behind the two Suzuki of Hopkins and Camier. Author of a courageous comeback, Loris Baz is only a few lengths from Berger. Sylvain Guintoli is in 18th position behind Hiroshi Aoyama.

Within the peloton, Badovini manages to overtake Davies and thus takes 6th place. Five seconds ahead, Max Biaggi tries to prevent Melandri from returning to his aspiration !

Suddenly, Loris Baz disappears from the standings: the n ° 76 returns to the pits and allows Guintoli in particular to nibble a place. No.50 is now 16th, three seconds behind his teammate at No.121: Maxime Berger.

The halfway mark was not quite crossed and Melandri finally found himself in the wheel of the leading Aprilia. The two ex-MotoGP stars have a six-second lead over their colleagues at the World Superbike: Laverty, Sykes, Badovini, Checa and Davies. Eighth, Fabrizio is 19 seconds behind the two leading men !

The members of the hunting party dissipate in the 12th loop: Sykes occupies the third step of the podium and is ahead of Laverty, Checa, Davies and Badovini! In front, Melandri in turn unleashes an attack on Biaggi, which he manages to conclude…

Max turns around furtively: Sykes is far behind, phew! Melandri gives it all in the next loop but can’t seem to dump Max. Marco is lost even when braking the long straight and falls back to 2nd position.

Behind, Laverty is lagging behind: Badovini and Checa passed in front of him! The Irishman must now beware of another Aprilia: that of his Welsh friend, Chaz Davies! Fabrizio, Haslam and Giugliano complete the Top10. No doubt cooled by his misstep, Melandri wisely stayed behind Biaggi in the following laps. Laverty must give up his 6th place to Davies in the 13th lap.

Melandri put on the brakes again at Biaggi just before starting the 16th lap. Although Marco wished his old friend a happy birthday on Twitter – 41 years for Biaggi this week – the Hedgehog is not planning on giving him a present on the track. !

Biaggi tries to take revenge, still on the brakes, a loop and a half later but Marco does not let go: placed outside the n ° 3 in full curve, the n ° 33 does not give up the gas and keeps the lead the entry of the following curve! The RSV4 then pretends to dislocate the S1000RR in the next straight line but does not compete – for the moment – under braking.

At more than eight seconds now, Sykes retains 3rd place but must always be wary of Badovini, Checa and Davies located only a few lengths away. Laverty rode solo in 7th position, far ahead of the inseparable Haslam and Fabrizio.

Two laps from the finish, Biaggi climbs ahead of Melandri in the middle of a straight line, then this time forcing Marco to brake a bit too late. The n ° 33 is still a little lost under braking from the pit lane and finds himself half a second behind his rival with only one lap remaining.

Melandri is doomed to escort Biaggi to victory, his fourth this season and his third in a row after his double at Misano! Behind, Ayrton Badovini does too much: he loses the front and mows down Tom Sykes … The poor English Ninja misses a seventh podium and especially suddenly loses three places in the championship !

The n ° 66 and 86 on the mat, they offer the third step to Carlos Checa! The two Aprilias of Davies and Laverty complete the Top 5 of this first race. Maxime Berger meanwhile barely entered the Top 10. Guintoli finished in 12th place.

Supersport Race

Cluzel got off to a very good start and kept 1st place ahead of Sheridan Morais and Kenan Sofuoglu. Further down the grid, unfortunately, two drivers collided with each other when the red lights went out. Pilots and machines stay on the ground for a long time: the red flag is immediately hoisted…

Second start: this time, Sheridan Morais overtook the French poleman in the stretch. The South African is ahead of Jules Cluzel, Kenan Sofuoglu, Vittorio Iannuzzo, Fabien Foret, Broc Parkes, Ronan Quarmby, Sam Lowes, Alex Baldolini and Romain Lanusse !

From the first lap, Fabien took 4th place. Jules, equally motivated, put pressure on Sheridan and took the lead at the end of the straight. Sofuoglu does not want to let Cluzel slip away but must first get rid of his own teammate Morais

The Turk goes on the attack in the second loop and does not stop there, overtaking Cluzel a few curves further: the tone of the race is set! Jules wins at the end of the straight despite Kenan’s big defense.

At the third passage on the line, n ° 54 is again in front of n ° 16. During this time Foret in turn overtook Morais and launched an assault on the leading duo located a small second ahead. The peloton is slowly stretching out…

Full angle in a fairly slow right, Jules Cluzel lost the front of his Honda and had to retire. Fortunately for the French clan, Fabien Foret is on the lookout, or rather on the attack: n ° 99 finds himself in the wheel of n ° 54 in the 4th lap.

Our favorite Ninja is unfortunately lost in a break to the left: Fabien lets Kenan go and finds himself behind Sheridan and Broc. Sam Lowes circulates in 5th place, half a second behind Foret, and in his wake brings Iannuzzo, Baldolini and Quarmby.

Applied, Sheridan Morais tries to stay in contact with his teammate Kenan Sofuoglu. Broc Parkes is still in 3rd place while Fabien, too messy, is surprised by Sam Lowes in the 6th lap. The Englishman climbs on the podium in the next loop, braking Parkes at the end of the straight line.

Parkes did not stay fourth for long: he was quickly overtaken by Foret who felt, like Lowes, that the two official Kawasaki were not impregnable this afternoon! Sofuoglu only has half a second on Morais chased by Lowes and Foret. In the background, we can see the two Triumphs of Baldolini and Iannuzzo in front of the Honda of Quarmby.

Suddenly, Lowes overtook Morais. The Englishman is immediately imitated by Foret! The South African returns to the straight line but must finally surrender. In the heat of the moment, Parkes moved closer: half the race is over and the top five are rolling in almost the same second….

Sam Lowes performs a great interior on Kenan Sofuoglu! Fabien Foret tries to take advantage of the Turk’s slight gap but his rear Pirelli warns him quite clearly that he does not agree. The highside primer is fortunately quickly contained by the n ° 99 which remains in front of the n ° 32 and 23.

In "his" adored break, Fabien manages to overtake Kenan Sofuoglu. Fabien is right to attack: Sam Lowes seems eager to isolate himself in the lead … but our compatriot misses the same left the following lap and cannot resist the return of the two Kawasaki.

Morais got out a few turns later and joined the track in 5th position, a few lengths from Parkes. In front of Lowes is managing his race quite quietly, unlike Foret who is crushed by Sofuoglu in the middle of a straight line six laps from the end !

Boosted, the Turk completed an ultra fast lap and joined Sam. Fabien remained focused and was still in contact with the two leading men when Kenan was asked to give up three places for his bad behavior! At the same time, the two-time world champion and his No. 54 Kawa ‘take the lead: there are only three laps to go….

The gaps widen in the last loops: Lowes does his best to keep up with Sofuoglu’s frantic pace, Foret is content with his third – second ?! – place and Sheridan Morais also rolls alone in fourth – third ?! – position.

Sofuoglu is the first to cross the finish line … The results of the race are not officially declared until the end of the lap of honor: Sam Lowes takes his second victory of the season, ahead of Fabien Foret, Sheridan Morais and Broc Parkes.

Kenan Sofuoglu is finally penalized by four places and inherits 5th place in this race … In the championship therefore, Sofuoglu maintains a good lead over Lowes: 16 points separate the two strong men of this season.

Jules Cluzel, on the contrary, misses the opportunity to return to contact: his counter remains stuck at 84 points, that is to say only one point more than Fabien Foret! On the constructors’ side, Honda takes the advantage over Kawasaki (156 points against 151). Triumph is third (76) ahead of Yamaha 560) and Suzuki (6).

Second Superbike race

Max Biaggi is ahead of Tom Sykes quickly overtaken by Eugene Laverty. The Irishman even took control of the race at the end of the first series of turns. Marco Melandri then Leon Haslam also pass Ninja n ° 66. Follow Davide Giugliano, Sylvain Guintoli, Jonathan Rea, Chaz Davies and Carlos Checa.

Laverty and his Aprilia n ° 58 set the pace ahead of their four main rivals. Behind Sykes, the race is much livelier: on the third lap, Giugliano leads Rea, Davies, Checa, Camier, Badovini, Guintoli and Baz !

In front of Laverty tries to pack up but Biaggi and Melandri remain in contact. England’s Haslam and Sykes have a harder time keeping up and are soon joined by Welshman Davies. Max tries to put the brakes on Eugene, but he widens and starts again in "his" second place…

Pressed by Biaggi, Laverty almost lost the rear at the exit of the left hairpin but kept control of his RSV4 as well as the reins of the race. Three seconds behind, Davies continues to gain ground: the Aprilia n ° 19 makes short work of the Kawa ‘n ° 66 and aims at the BMW n ° 91…

In the 5th lap, Max Biaggi took advantage of the aspiration to overtake his young teammate and take the lead of the race. In the pit straight this time, Melandri passes in front of Laverty and remains lodged in Biaggi’s rear wheel.

The second group is still dominated by Haslam, but Davies is only a few lengths away … Moreover, Sykes, Giugliano and Checa hang on! Jonathan Rea follows a small second in ninth position, far ahead of Badovini.

In the 7th loop, the order of the chase group is redistributed: Davies now leads the charge ahead of Sykes, Haslam and the two Ducati Althea de Checa and Giugliano. At the forefront, Laverty moved up to second position. Behind again, Sykes overtakes Haslam! The maneuver also benefits Checa who slips into 6th position.

Only Chaz Davies can "fly" properly: the private pilot occupies a good 4th place, less than two seconds from the leader … who changes his identity on the 12th lap: Laverty is once again leading the race ahead of the two Italians !

Ten laps from the end, Checa attempted an attack on Sykes at the end of the straight line but widened too much and started again in 6th place, still behind Kawasaki therefore. Haslam and Giugliano stay behind the two fanatics while Johnny Rea comes back like a bullet !

In front, Biaggi is slow to attack Laverty. Melandri takes second place, apparently determined to show Max that the pace in the race can be improved … Marco’s teammate Leon Haslam finds a second wind and takes his sixth place in Checa.

The world champion is then dispossessed of 7th place by Rea, but Carlos quickly recovers his due: there are still seven loops to go and the suspense continues to increase !

Still in the lead riding his official RSV4, Eugene Laverty is being chased by his former Yamaha teammate last year: Marco Melandri. The n ° 33 goes on the attack at the start of the 15th lap, leaving Eugene to manage Max, but also Chaz Davies who have recovered almost to their level. !

Biaggi climbs on the second step of the podium five laps from the checkered flag, then on the highest step! Marco brakes Max at the end of the straight line but widens, taking his compatriot with him and opening the door wide to the two Britons Laverty and Davies !

The two kids from World Supersport take matters into their own hands and hold their own against the former MotoGP stars. When braking on the long straight, Laverty failed to spread but stayed ahead! The four men are rolling wheel in wheel with less than three loops left to go !

Melandri tries hard braking on Davies but widens again. The second attack in the run this time is the right one: Marco climbs into second position with less than three laps to go. Max Biaggi is much more measured and waits for the right time.

In the following lap, Melandri made a third braking too late and remained in 2nd position. Laverty is imperturbable, as is Davies who only lets go of Marco’s wheel when the latter gets carried away….

The S1000RR # 33 ended up taking the lead in the final loop while Max Biaggi still stumbled over Chaz Davies. Eugene Laverty remains glued to Marco Melandri but can not try anything. The BMW driver finally wins with 42 thousandths ahead of the Aprilia n ° 58.

The other two Aprilia on the grid follow within half a second, separated from each other by the same tiny gap! Going unnoticed due to the superb show at the forefront, Jonathan Rea’s beautiful race must be highlighted.

The n ° 65 Honda rider took a very satisfying fifth place: for Johnny it was his first test in Aragon! He is followed by Leon Haslam and Carlos Checa. Poleman Tom Sykes finished his second race just ahead of his best enemy Badovini (cf. first race) and Davide Giugliano.

Marco Melandri therefore nibbles a few points in the championship on Max Biaggi: n ° 33 is 48 points behind n ° 3. Jonathan Rea is 65.5 points behind the leader, Checa at 73 and Sykes at 76. On the constructor side, Aprilia (266) takes first place and BMW (242) backs up to Ducati (247.5). Honda (189) retains the advantage over Kawasaki (178.5), Suzuki still bringing up the rear (63.5).
