The Yamaha factory team will not take part in the legendary Suzuka 8-hour race this year, which is scheduled for July 19th.

The third round of the Endurance World Championship 2019/2020 is planned for July 19 in Suzuka. It’s the home race for the Japanese manufacturers – traditional and prestigious. From 2015 to 2018 Yamaha win this endurance race with his works team in a row. In 2019, Kawasaki prevailed with Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam. The Greens have already announced that Jonathan Rea, Alex Lowes and Xavi Fores will be the drivers for this year.

Reason for rejection still unclear

At Yamaha, it should have been the two Superbike World Championship pilots Michael van der Mark and Toprak Razgatlioglu in the works team. It is not yet known why the manufacturer canceled the 43rd edition of the Suzuka eight-hour race. It is not yet clear whether the race will actually take place on July 19th. The race track is currently still closed due to the measures taken against the corona pandemic. But the date is currently still, which is why it is unlikely that Yamaha’s cancellation has anything to do with the pandemic.

Provided that the race in Suzuka takes place in July 2020, Yamaha teams will start on Honda’s in-house track again this year, just not the works team. For Yamaha, the focus is now on the Austrian team YART, which competes with Niccolo Canepa, Marvin Fritz and Kohta Nozane. The team won the opening race of the World Endurance Championship in Sepang and is currently in fourth place in the championship standings.
