Yamaha has a whole tribe of Maxes: Tmax, Xmax, Tech Max – and the smallest, the newly refreshed Nmax 125. This Maxchen is successful, it finds around 18,000 buyers in Europe every year. Not least among the courier services in the big cities, and that means something, because their drivers need a practical, manoeuvrable vehicle without flaws, but with good equipment.
Yamaha Nmax 125 now with traction control
That’s what the Yamaha Nmax 125 now even more, because ABS is joined by traction control. The new automatic start and stop system switches the engine off at the traffic lights to save fuel. According to Yamaha, consumption is only 2.2 liters, which should be enough for over 300 kilometers thanks to the enlarged tank. It starts with a smart key, whose transponder automatically unlocks or locks the scooter when the driver approaches or moves away.
The key can stay in the jacket pocket. Headlights and taillights have a new look, of course in LED technology, as befits the premium claim of the city scooter.
Has no trouble even with steep climbs
The Yamaha Nmax 125 is making good progress on top of that. Because of Euro 5 he loses half a horsepower, but the maximum output of around 12 horsepower is now available earlier, which gives him a lively traffic light start. The engine moves linearly up to 70 km / h, after that it gets a little more stubborn, but thanks to the moderate weight of 131 kilograms with a full tank, the 125 cc scooter also moves quickly outside of town.
When making a detour to the Florentine hills, he had no trouble even with steep climbs. However, you shouldn’t overdo it with the sloping position in hairpin bends and bends, otherwise the running board cover will brush the asphalt. But hanging-offs are rarely in demand in city traffic, the prime discipline of the scooter, so handiness and agility in slalom are even more important. And the Yamaha Nmax 125 does this very well. Fork and struts respond properly, but the rear suspension showed slight weaknesses on the cobblestones in Florence.
No USB socket, but a 12V connection
The storage space under the bench seat has a capacity of 23 liters, but is not illuminated, and there are two compartments in the cockpit for cell phones & Co, both not lockable. There is no USB socket, only a 12V connection. Good: The Yamaha Nmax 125 comes with a main stand and a side stand. As an accessory, Yamaha offers an Urban package (475 euros) with a large topcase and a 24 centimeter higher windshield. For particularly ambitious drivers, there are even noble suspension struts from Ohlins (726 euros) – they should easily cope with the bumpy Florentine paving.
Conclusion
The agile Yamaha Nmax 125 is exactly the right choice for the city. But its around 12 hp are even good for winding slopes. Only from 70 km / h does it get a bit tough.
