Advice on pillion covers
Single game

Passenger covers make many motorcycles look more appealing. MOTORRAD shows what options the aftermarket has to offer to transform a good bike into a sporty single-seater.

Whether single or husband, many bikers prefer to sit alone on their bike when riding a motorcycle. No wonder that the pillion cushion, especially in the case of the super athletes, has to give way to a smooth cover for aesthetic reasons. The accessories trade has also adjusted to this, offering conversions to single-seaters for numerous motorcycles.
The simplest and, in the case of one-piece bench seats, usually also the cheapest option are covers that are simply pushed over the rear part of the standard upholstery. Disadvantage: Depending on the height of the seat, the cover on some motorcycles protrudes more or less disruptively over the rear fairing. Aesthetes therefore often invest a little more money in a solo hump. This completely replaces the original bench and mostly blends in unobtrusively and harmoniously with the standard design. The storage space, which is increased by the volume of the hump, often benefits from the conversion, which is subject to registration. In addition, with some providers, the seat cushion can be designed according to customer requirements.
If, on the other hand, the bike has two separate seats for the driver and front passenger, only the rear cushion is exchanged for a seat wedge. There is no requirement that such a rear fairing has to be registered, but with a TuV parts certificate you are always on the safe side in case of doubt. We also recommend painting in the original colors, which is offered by many suppliers for an additional charge, because the additional charge is in most cases lower than the costs for a subsequent painting of the seat cover or replaceable humps.

Covers

The cheapest way to turn a conventional upholstery for two people into a solo seat is to use the simple covers. They are pushed over the rear end of the removed standard seat and then attached to the bike together with the bench. Slipping it over sometimes requires some force until the cover is in the desired position. Caution: If you do this too briskly, you may risk breaking one or more retaining straps. Fechter Drive and Team Metisse offer these cover shells made of ABS plastic for the most common models. A TuV certificate is not required for this type of seat reduction, as the standard seat is retained.

Passenger covers: advice – exchangeable humps

Swap bumps are one of the most elegant solutions for soloists. In contrast to the covers mounted over the cushions, they replace the original bench. The humps can therefore be shaped in such a way that they form a harmonious unit with the standard rear fairing. Haungs provides a perfect example of this with its interchangeable humps for numerous models such as the Honda CBR 600 F built from 1999 onwards (1). The price, including the seat, attachments and sample report, is 425 marks. A further 70 marks (100 marks for metallic paint) are charged for painting in the original color. Gimbel also offers its Vario hump for many models. The GRP conversion kit for the Yamaha XJR 1300 (2) costs 429 marks unpainted and includes the necessary brackets, seat cushions and a TuV certificate. Painting in the motorcycle color costs 180 marks extra. The Smuggler bench from Corbin (3) with a lockable storage compartment is brand new. At a price of 1399 marks, it is not only available for the Suzuki Bandit, but also for a number of other models. The price includes painting in vehicle color; When it comes to seat covers, you can choose between leather or synthetic leather.
