What a cockpit fairing can do, amazing! The best example is this Kawasaki ZRX 1200 R, which, just like its 1100 predecessor, wears this characteristic part. That is completely retro. And reminiscent of the eighties, when large-volume Kawasaki four-cylinder machines were driven by many bad boys and those who wanted to look at least that way. The 122 hp 1200er, which was sold as a new vehicle from 2001 to 2007, is more popular with people of reason. Because you can drive stress-free on this machine, you can fall back on a sovereign, but not overwhelming torque (at 2000 rpm already 80 Newton meters), because luggage and passengers do not have to be excluded, maintenance is manageable – and because the Kawasaki ZRX 1200 is hard to break.

These virtues also apply to the uncovered version and to the S version of the Kawasaki ZRX 1200, which is equipped with a more modern half-shell and offers the best touring comfort in comparison. But compared to the “R”, the other two look rather bland, which is why they sometimes wrongly go to waste at retailers. Because the famous Tokico stoppers brake equally well on all three model variants; Transmission, gearshift, sound: everything is great. But only this small, angular cockpit fairing in connection with the retro paintwork gives the motorcycle the necessary independence to be noticed in the large used range – and thus respectable value retention.

Without it: The completely naked Kawasaki ZRX 1200 was anything but a top seller – fewer than 400 new buyers hit. As a used one, it is rare.
No stress is to be expected from the conventionally designed four-cylinder – with proper maintenance it will last forever and three days. If the Kawasaki ZRX 1200 is first-hand and has been looked after by a touring rider with a garage, there is no need to shy away from offers with significantly more than 50,000 kilometers – as long as the maintenance history is proven. Theoretically every 6000 kilometers an inspection is due, but only visits to the workshop for a major inspection are relatively expensive (every 24,000 kilometers: adjust valves, fork check; costs: around 450 euros).
More caution is required if the vehicle registration document shows a lively round of previous owners. If “extras” such as “special paintwork” or “many new parts” are advertised, it could be a fall machine. Tried and tested case systems (Givi, Hepco & Becker, Krauser), which can upgrade the used Kawasaki ZRX 1200 by up to 300 euros.

A neat one Kawasaki ZRX 1200 R. Finding below 3500 euros is a demanding task. Possibly still in the color green? Almost impossible – it is better to plan 1000 euros more! The search for a completely bare used ZRX 1200 is even more difficult due to the very modest new sales. In contrast to the “R”, however, this is hardly searched for specifically. For the said R variant in lime green, which is reminiscent of the blissful times in the 1980s, when the Kawasaki Z 1000 J and Eddy Lawson triumphed in the US Superbike championship, there are times when the 1-a-condition and the odometer reading below 10,000 kilometers 6500 euros and more called. That is overpriced, but this used car in good condition will probably not fall below 4000 euros in the future. Demand and prices look completely different for the S variant: low. Often found as a used car, as a now somewhat dusty carburettor sports tourer without ABS, it can hardly be sold for more than 4500 euros, because good deals can be found for around 3000 euros. Dealers and private sellers are balanced when it comes to their offers.
