Fear of your own courage

Nobody, because the great ninja not only scored with brute performance and a fat ice cream parlor bonus. Word quickly got around that said potential can be used very well. The ZX-12R is not a show bike; most owners regularly demand its performance in practice. That’s what it’s built for, and its mechanical reliability is basically very good – according to professional screwdrivers for over 100,000 kilometers without an engine overhaul. At the periphery, however, the high-speed pace naturally takes its toll. With pleasure and often on the brakes: At the latest when a pulsation in the hand lever is noticeable when driving slowly and gently applying the front brake and the entire load jerks slightly, the stoppers are due. For the forehand you can start at 500 euros, with the discs alone contributing 200 euros each.

With good care, the chain set on the ZX-12R lasts astonishingly long, but also not forever: greater attention is required from 25,000 kilometers. Slight gear hooks are almost normal with the ninja, but annoyance is not. Cracks on the fairing brackets and exhaust manifolds are not that rare.

The great ninja is not in short supply as used. Well-hung kilometer kings with over 50,000 kilometers on the speedometer can occasionally be got for just over 3,000 euros.
