Energica and Dell’Orto: partnership for electric drives
Energica and Dell’Orto
Partnership for electric drives
The electric motorcycle supplier Energica and the Italian supplier Dell’Orto agreed a partnership in the summer of 2019 in which electric drives for motorcycles are to be jointly developed. Now there is a first project.

Drive units are planned for small two-wheelers with a power range from 8 to 11 kW as well as drive modules for mid-range models, which should then have an output of up to 30 kW. Brings into the partnership Energica his know-how about electric drives and Dell’Orto his production, development and sales competence. Dell’Orto has manufacturing facilities in Europe, India and China. Energica already signed a sales partnership with Utomocorp in Indonesia in April 2020. Indonesia aims to have over two million electric bikes on the streets by 2025.
The agreement between the two companies Energica and Dell’Orto also provides that the profits from each drive module sold in the future will be split in half. Financial details of the partnership were not given.
E-power modules

In autumn 2020, the partners presented their first joint project. Under the title E-Power, universally applicable electric drive modules for two-wheelers were presented, which can be scaled in output from 2.5 to 15 kW. This would cover the range from 50 to 125. Depending on the configuration, the range is around 100 kilometers. The modular 48 V and 2.3 kWh batteries can be recharged at any conventional socket. More powerful drive modules are to follow.
Great growth expected
The targeted market segment of small electric motorcycles currently comprises around one million units a year. In the first quarter of 2019 alone, however, the European motorcycle manufacturer association ACEM recorded growth of 79 percent. The partners also have high hopes for the Asian markets.
Dell’Orto became famous for its legendary carburetors. The Italians are currently developing and manufacturing injection systems for the two-wheeler manufacturers Piaggio, BMW, KTM, Peugeot and Sym as well as for the car manufacturers Fiat-Chrysler, GM, PSA, BMW, Renault, Volvo and Mahindra. In two-wheel motorsport, Dell’Orto is represented in MotoGP and Moto3 as well as in MotoE with data systems.
