Harley-Davidson LiveWire recall: software update required
Harley-Davidson LiveWire Recall
Software update necessary
Harley-Davidson has to recall its LiveWire electric motorcycle. A software error can cause the drive to switch off suddenly.
Uli Baumann
October 21, 2020
As reported by the American traffic safety authority NHTSA, 1,012 Harley-Davidson LiveWire from the 2020 model year, which were manufactured between September 2019 and March 2020, have been ordered back. However, since all LiveWire models roll from the same belt, vehicles in other markets are also likely to be affected by this recall. For Germany, estimates are based on around 60 vehicles.
Drive switches off
A problem with the on-board charging system can lead to an unexpected shutdown of the drive train. This can lead to accidents. In some cases, the lighting up of the symbols for traction control, ABS and the failure indicator indicates the problem in advance. Under certain circumstances, the motorcycle can be started again after it has been switched off, but there is still a risk of another failure. If the drive has switched itself off, no further travel should be undertaken.

When visiting the workshop, the Harley LiveWire receives a new software version for the charging system that is supposed to eliminate the problem. In the USA, LiveWire owners can rely on a pick-up and delivery service from the workshops.
