There is a supposedly good selection of Harley-Davidson Night Rod / Special on the market, but half of the online offer are (almost) new machines with daily registration. The remainder: mostly well-kept, few kilometers.

Harley-Davidson Night Rod / Special from 9,500 euros

Low price level
Very manageable offer. 2006/2007 mileage kings with clear signs of use, US imports and sweets with a history that is not always traceable from (Eastern) European countries cavort here. Something for experts.

Harley-Davidson Night Rod / Special from 12,000 euros

Medium price level
The majority of the offer can be found in this price range. The mileage is usually between 15,000 and 25,000 kilometers, but occasionally well below 10,000. First-hand and checkbook-maintained machines are more the rule than the exception.

High price level
Very young used ones and more extensive conversions can be found in this category. From 16,000 euros, however, the air for sellers becomes very thin – the daily registrations are not far away in terms of price. Practically only exclusive conversions go over 20,000 euros.

• 2006: First model year of the Night Rod (VRSCD), presentation traditionally in autumn of the previous year, 1131 cm³, 120 hp, 108 Nm, from 16,995 euros.
  Approvals in D: 343 pieces.
• 2007: Tank 18.9 instead of 14 liters, ignition lock on the steering head, stronger secondary timing belt, new brake pads and lines, redesigned electrics, keyless remote control, Night Rod: from 17,535 euros, new model: Night Rod Special (VRSCDX), 18,355 euros.
  Approvals in D (both models): 667 pieces.
• 2008: Night Rod no longer in the program. Displacement and power increase (1246 cm³, 125 HP, 111 Nm), new slipper clutch, ABS available as an extra, new: wheel bearings and axles, side stand switch, price unchanged.
  Approvals in D: 557 pieces.
• 2009: ABS as standard, new upper triple clamp, which makes the front end even more rigid, price unchanged.
  Approvals in D: 292 pieces.
• 2010: New master cylinder, unleaded counterweights on the wheels, price unchanged.
  Approvals in D: 253 pieces.
• 2011: New tires (Michelin Scorcher), price reduced to 17,495 euros.
  Approvals in D: 310 pieces.
• 2012: Extensive revision: upside-down instead of telescopic fork, new triple clamps, re-tuned suspension struts, new and lighter cast wheels, new handlebars, new footrests, new seat, slimmer fenders, LED taillights, special model “V-Rod 10th Anniversary Edition” (17,945 euros) based on the Night Rod Special, further price reduction: from 16,295 euros. Approvals in D: 620 pieces.
• 2013–2016:No significant changes, prices from 16,785 / 17,635 / 17,995 / 18,295 euros (from MY 2013 including utilities).
  Approvals in D: 579/428/475/532 pieces (as of November 2016).
• 2017: The production was stopped in 2016, sales for 18,590 euros.
  Recall model years 2012–2013: Attachment of the license plate holder.

The Harley-Davidson VRSC family

From autumn 2001 the mixed Harley-Davidson V-Rod the somewhat snore Harley world and founded the power cruiser genre. Your water-cooled “Revolution Engine” accelerated the Harley-Davidson V-Rod from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 4 seconds and achieved a top speed of well over 200 km / h.

Harley-Davidson Street Rod

The Harley-Davidson V-Rod was a complete success – and its first offspring was a splendid flop: The Harley-Davidson Street Rod was launched for the first time in the 2005 model year. Although it offered the powerful, revving and extremely cultivated V-Rod engine a naked bike environment and promised a lot of fun on bends, with its overgrown appearance it stood in tough competition with Klingon wheelchairs – and lost mercilessly.

The third member of the Harley-Davidson V-Rod family had to do better. Rummaging and combining in the VRSC kit gave the hooked customers the Harley-Davidson Night Rod, abbreviation: VRSCD, in autumn 2005. The cross between V-Rod and Street Rod looked pleasing, in the end it wasn’t exactly what the bad guys really wanted: the seating position too cramped, the rear wheel skin too narrow, too much shine on too many components.

But the rough direction was correct. Just one year later, Harley got it, and the 2007 model year eliminated the main points of criticism: more forward-mounted footrests, 240 mm rear tires, lower seat height, handlebars narrower and lower, nastier exhaust and – which finally rounded off things – black, where to go the eye looked. This motorcycle was called the Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special and cost only around 800 euros more than the standard Night Rod. As a result, it was thrown out of the program in 2008.

The changes were not beneficial to the driving behavior, but quickly maneuvering around corners was and is not the ultimate goal of typical night rod drivers anyway. The customers enjoy the great show and the powerful pushing engine on the straight, are happy about the reliability and have fun with the valuable fare dodger.
