Motorcycle fair IMOT 2018 in Munich
Celebrating 25 years

The IMOT motorcycle fair took place from February 16 to 18, 2018 at the MOC Munich. It celebrated its silver anniversary, so it was the 25th IMOT.

Dina Dervisevic

02/19/2018

The International Motorcycle Exhibition (IMOT) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018. From February 16 to 18, the organizer invited motorcyclists, scooter friends, quad fans and all other interested parties to the halls of the MOC in Munich-Freimann. Over 20,000 square meters were available for product highlights and trends in clothing, travel, tuning and accessories. More than 300 exhibitors presented themselves and their products on site and over 60,000 two-wheeler fans romped about in the exhibition halls this weekend.

For IMOT managing director Lixi Laufer, the expectations have been fully met: “Many of our visitors have been coming to IMOT for years – a clear sign that it is never boring here. The response this year was overwhelming, both from the fans and from the more than 300 exhibitors. More than 60,000 two-wheeler fans at the anniversary fair are a grandiose result and of course make us a little proud.”

Highlights at the fair

The brand new BMW F 750 GS and F 850 GS models with the new 853 cm³ engine, the KTM 790 Duke, the V4 Panigale, the luxury tourer Honda GL 1800 Gold Wing and the complete 2018 Harley model range were particularly popular for seat tests.

Sought-after to try it out: Honda Gold Wing.

The special exhibition was for fans of the Gold Wing cult touring bike “Royal Bavarian GoldWinger” in hall 5/532 / D108 a must-attend event, while in hall 5 / D102 / 103 BMW two-cylinder boxers from the last 95 years could be admired. In Hall 4/442 the so-called “Sleeping beauties” be admired – BMW boxer models that shine again in their old splendor after a long slumber in garages or barns, often for decades.

Extravagant special modifications were waiting for the trade fair visitors at the special show by KawaMotor – the model range on display ranged from the cool cafe racer to the stylish naked bike to the casual cruiser (Hall 5 C114 / 533). The original Isle of Man racing machine BB3 TT (T-Trofeo) was shown at Bimota in Hall 5 / D106.

Test drives were announced in Hall 2/219: Even motorcycle fans who do not yet have a driver’s license (aged 16 and over) were able to gain their first experience on a 125cc or large machine with on-site instructors.

Honda Africa Twin from our long-term test

At the IMOT booth of MOTORRAD there was the dismantled Honda Africa Twin (picture above) from our 50,000 km MOTORRAD endurance test (Publication in issue 5/2018, from February 16.).

And as always, MOTORRAD heroes got a free coffee in the red cult cup (on presentation of their ID).
