With Joan Mir, a Suzuki driver won the 2020 driver’s title. The field of drivers has largely been reshuffled for the 2021 season. Except for the second regular place at Aprilia the pairings for the coming season are now fixed.

Only one vacancy at Aprilia

Aleix Espargaro remains the number one driver for Aprilia Racing Team Gresini. After Four-year suspension for Andrea Iannone now make Bradley Smith and Lorenzo Savadori the second place among themselves. Here the Italians want to wait for the winter tests before a final decision is made.

On the other hand, the driver pairings in the other teams are fixed. Repsol Honda continues to compete with Marc Marquez. Pol Espargaro joins the team. Stefan Bradl remains a substitute and test driver. If Marquuez is still not fit by the start of the season, Bradl should get back into the saddle of the number 93 machine.

Partner swap at Yamaha

As a works team, Monster Energy Yamaha will rely on the driver pairing Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Vinales for the next two seasons. Franco Morbidelli and Valentino Rossi grip the handlebars of the Petronas Yamaha satellite team. The Suzuki factory team Ecstar will remain loyal to its two pilots Alex Rins and Joan Mir up to and including 2022.

The Ducati Mission Winnow factory team has Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia under contract for the coming season. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team has signed a contract with Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira for 2021.

Moto2 climber at Ducati

LCR Honda will be the satellite team of the Japanese factory team with Alex Marquez and Takaaki Nakagami until 2022. Only confirmed until the end of 2021 are the Ducati satellite teams Pramac Ducati Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin, and Avintia Ducati Luca Marini and Enea Bastianini. At Red Bull KTM Tech 3, contracts have been signed with Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona for 2021.

Cal Crutchlow, who was sorted out at LCR-Honda, becomes a Yamaha test rider. For the Japanese, Crutchlow can drive three Grand Prix with a wildcard in 2021 and step in as a substitute driver for Monster Yamaha and Petronas-Yamaha. Ducati dropout Andrea Dovizioso is taking a year off.
