What is remarkable is the relatively good wind and weather protection for an open helmet, even at high speeds (170 km / h on an undisguised motorcycle).

The visor dismantling is child’s play and without tools. The visor is replaced by a small screen.

The only wind protection is then the somewhat tricky to use sun visor, whose dark tint limits the view somewhat. We could not detect any unpleasant turbulence behind the cover that would move the driver to tears.

However, if you wear a slightly larger face oriel, the wind pushes the lower edge of the panel onto your nose again and again. Not strong, but definitely noticeable.

The matt black painted M1 Pro version we drive is more sensitive to dirt than the glossy painted helmet shells. Crashed insects require a little more cleaning effort.

The M1 Pro can be driven with or without a visor. It weighs 1,318 grams with communication system and umbrella, and 1,515 grams with intercom and visor for size 59. The visor can be dismantled easily and without tools. The visor is replaced by a small screen. So equipped, the Pro is extremely airy, but still very quiet even at brisk country road speeds. The only wind protection is the somewhat clunky to use sun visor, the dark tint of which restricts the view somewhat. We could not detect any unpleasant turbulence behind the cover that would move the driver to tears. However, if you wear a slightly larger face oriel, the wind pushes the lower edge of the panel onto your nose again and again. Not strong, but definitely noticeable.

Airy, but still quiet

Visor change. With the windshield, the M1 Pro still remains airy and the noise level drops even further. The extremely large and distortion-free field of view is remarkable. Also noteworthy is the relatively good wind and weather protection for an open helmet, even at high speeds (170 km / h on an uncovered motorcycle). The improved, easy-to-use ventilation was clearly noticeable in practice. The new, removable inner lining is very pleasant at any temperature, and the chin strap with ratchet lock can be easily and safely operated, even with gloves.

Integrated communication system

The SC1M communication system provided by Sena is simply clipped into the back of the helmet shell. It should connect up to four call participants with one another in a matter of seconds. Thanks to the new audio multitasking, bikers can hear two Bluetooth sources at the same time, such as navigation instructions and music or phone calls. The navigation announcements, for example, are superimposed on the other audio track without interrupting it. The latest update of the SC1M also enables HD Voice – so cell phone calls should now come across in crystal clear sound. At the same time, the configuration menu has also been slimmed down, which is why the system should now be even more intuitive to use.

The SC1M can convince in practice. The remote control, which can be securely attached to the jacket with a clip or an adhesive pad to the helmet or motorcycle, is easy to use – even when wearing gloves. Like the helmet module, it was able to prove its water resistance in a long trip in the rain. The superposition of two Bluetooth sources runs smoothly – navigating and listening to music can run in parallel. Even phone calls can be made up to a speed of 100 km / h with brilliant sound and good communication, but at 150 km / h the wind noise increasingly disrupts communication. The integrated radio was not convincing – the station search did not find a program at various locations, and found stations could not be kept for long in the hilly terrain. The battery life (the manufacturer states 14 hours) is sufficient for two long day trips. The empty energy storage device is recharged in just under three hours. At 239 euros, the system is not cheap, but the integration is perfect and the range of services offered is convincing.

Note: The SRC system that we initially tested with the M1 Pro was approved by Schuberth in the meantime replaced by the successor system SC1M from the provider Sena and is no longer available for the customer. We have now re-tested the new communication system.

Sensitive to dirt and expensive

The matt black painted M1 Pro version we drove was much more sensitive to dirt than glossy painted helmet shells. Crashed insects require a little more cleaning to separate from the helmet shell.

The Schuberth M1 Pro is available in three solid colors and two decors, with five visor tints and in six sizes from XS to XXL, with two different helmet shell dimensions ensuring a perfect fit and maximum secure fit. As with other Schuberth helmets, we recommend choosing a size larger than usual. The plain versions start at 439 euros, the versions with decor cost from 539 euros.

Conclusion:

If you don’t mind the somewhat spherical helmet shape, you will receive a top open face helmet with a good and perfectly integrated communication system. Schuberth pays for both well, however. For me, a helmet plus communication system is still a real summer recommendation.
