Little skepticism with the checkbook-maintained copies

Classic fans and technology enthusiasts, aesthetes and carefree drivers? the big nude from Yamaha is an absolute, if not a cheap used hit.

The success story began with the XJR 1200 from 1995. Four years later, its legacy was taken over by the still current 1300, which nowadays is one of the most popular used models on the market with an inventory of over 10,000 machines, while well-maintained examples are still popular Slowly make the predecessor scarce. Where did this success come from? There are objective reasons: a high-torque, extremely durable motor with around 100 hp, comfortable ergonomics, first-class brakes or the best resale opportunities. However, interested parties prefer to listen to their gut feeling when buying. Hardly any other model exudes so much charm. The fine cooling fins of the row four, which are openly displayed, plus the brawny appearance and then these matching proportions! The XJR is a naked beauty, as God or the Yamaha development team created it. That works, that turns on. And lets generously overlook weaknesses, for example the wide engine that limits the lean angle. Or the – at least up to and including year of construction 2006 – the unfortunate set of standard chassis (too soft at the front, too hard at the rear), which severely restricts aggressive driving maneuvers and excessively sporty express speed on demanding country roads. Many other naked bikes can’t do it better either, and those who opt for a classic looking motorcycle tend to be more of a connoisseur than an uncompromising stoker. And enjoy, it works on the XJR in every situation.

The four-cylinder engine in its original form has already earned an excellent reputation as an endurance runner in the FJ 1200 sport touring steamer, and has been well maintained XJR 1300 tolerate mileage beyond 100,000 kilometers. There is little skepticism when it comes to checked-book models, and a short test drive with your ears open is enough to rule out major mechanical defects (slight valve ticking is normal). The clutch with its somewhat slack plate spring, however, has to deal with the enormous torque of the 1300s and likes to bend its knees. Similar to choppers and cruisers, buyers ensure that they are in perfect condition – metal and paint have to shine! Market situation

Since the 1300 hits the mark with a wide range of motorcyclists, demand is high. Well-kept copies at a fair price usually only stay a few days with dealers (majority of offers) and private sellers. Often, however, the requirements are exaggerated – such machines are often up to a price reduction that usually follows. Supply and demand are at a high level and are in balance. Particularly attractive for fans: SP models in the colors of ex-racing heroes Kenny Roberts and Christian Sarron. These motorcycles are less often for sale and have an even higher value retention than the already very popular standard model, which is rarely offered for less than 3500 euros. With the heavily modeled XJR from 2007 onwards, the demand for used vehicles is limited due to price demands from 6,000 euros, as new machines are already sold for 7,500 euros.
