2002–2005 – Honda CB 900 F: The large Hornet (model code SC48) can be seen as the predecessor of the CB 1000 R. The engine modified for more torque comes from a Fireblade, here from the CBR 900 RR from 1998 (SC33 II). Compared to the CB 1000 R, it is much more classic and tamer.

2008–2010 – Honda CB 1000 R: After a short period of abstinence, Honda brought a new Big Naked with the CB 1000 R (model code SC60). With a single-sided swing arm, four-in-one exhaust system, digital cockpit and completely redesigned headlights, the Japanese-built in Italy set new accents in the Honda portfolio.

2011–2016 – Honda CB 1000 R: Most buyers in Germany booked the optional ABS beforehand, but from model year 2011 onwards, the “Combined ABS” will be standard. The LED position light, the butted aluminum handlebar, golden rims and the three-color HRC special paint finish are also new.

Since 2018 – Honda CB 1000 R: Same name, completely different bike: The CB 1000 R SC80 is now part of Honda’s Neo Sports Cafe range. The design language has been adapted accordingly, but there are also technical changes: engine of the 2004 Fireblade, new frame, electronic helpers, minus twelve kilos.

Model overview and buying tips
The CB 1000 R has been sociable, well-behaved, lively and extravagant since 2008. Thanks to this successful compromise between sport and comfort, it is still popular today – even as a used one.

Did you still know that the abbreviation CB was once used by Honda “City bike”, that is, city motorcycle? That may have worked well with the CB 50 and CB 100 speedsters, which were once popular especially in Asia. But with the CB 450 at the latest, you will have to say goodbye to the compact city mobile. And especially with the Honda CB 1000 R, which was introduced in 2008. With its 125 hp and ample torque that it gets from the tamed Fireblade engine, it was a great road sweeper in the Honda portfolio for ten years.

Admittedly, today’s motorcycles can do almost everything a tad better – and if we’re honest, many of the competitors of the time were able to do so too, but only a little bit. So there is absolutely no reason to (be) in doubt, especially if you are interested in a used vehicle, especially price and reliability in the foreground. Here the CB 1000 R shines like a Honda, and with its technical quality makes up for the excess pounds as well as the rather soft chassis or its cockpit that takes getting used to. Admittedly, emotional fireworks look different, and yet this Honda, built in Italy, is a great motorcycle and today, even as a used motorcycle, it still offers everything you need.
engine
The 998 cubic in-line quad comes from the 2007 Fireblade and the CBF 1000. Bore and stroke are identical, only the cylinder heads with valves and the maximum output differ. In the CB 1000 R Honda managed to combine the brawny torque of the CBF and the speed of the Fireblade. With its 125 PS (for comparison: CBF 101 PS, Fireblade 160 PS), the engine pushes forward powerfully in all positions, can be driven in touristy gearshifts and is pleasantly gentle on the gas. He knows no real weaknesses, not even in terms of workmanship, reliability and durability.
landing gear
Especially in comparison with the new CB 1000 R (SC80), it is striking how soft the series chassis of the SC60, which was built from 2008 to 2016, is. It is undoubtedly agile, zigzag nimbly around alternating curves, allows a reliable line selection and, if necessary, spontaneous course corrections in an inclined position. Nevertheless, retrofitted spring elements from the accessories usually offer a decent increase in confidence and fun, especially if you want to take a sporty approach. Fresh tires are also a good tuning – our recommendation: Conti Road Attack 3.
everyday
As of model year 2011, the Honda was standard with a “Combined ABS” equipped, but even before that, many buyers in Germany booked the optional ABS, which also brakes at the front when the rear brake is operated. The digital cockpit is very informative, but confusing, the seating position is more front-wheel oriented, but well integrated into the bike and quite comfortable. The pillion footrests, the central recesses of which allow luggage straps to be attached, are sensible. The handy CB 1000 R can be driven very smoothly in the city and is sufficiently motorized and pleasantly stable when driving on country roads.
sightseeing
It is a Honda, which in most cases should rule out overly great concerns when buying a used vehicle. In fact, it is technically completely inconspicuous, which is why the mileage is rather subordinate. Those who are interested will find numerous offers with smaller, useful conversions such as other exhausts, LED indicators or a short license plate holder.
