It inherited the name from its predecessor, the more or less indestructible ST 1100, which was built until 2001. The new Honda ST 1300 Pan European but never do it justice: Because from 160 km / h she began to commute. At least whenever it was fully loaded. Or equipped with a topcase. Or the pane was upright. And especially when it all came together. This is exactly the reason why customers buy a high-speed tourer: to travel as quickly and comfortably as possible with proper luggage.

In defense: The Honda engineers hadn’t designed a Pan German – and at the maximum speeds of 130 km / h permitted in the rest of Europe, everything is actually in perfect order. An expert opinion by the KBA, which confirmed the harmlessness at higher speeds (in a sense: “Just because there are motorcycles that pose a lower risk, the Honda ST 1300 Pan European does not have to be classified as dangerous”), could not make its image really polish up.
What should you watch out for when visiting??
It is still a buy recommendation. Because the Honda ST 1300 Pan European is on par with the competition in all other tour-relevant points such as range, equipment, handiness or luggage storage. And compared to its predecessor, it is a consistent further development: more space, more weather protection, more comfort and more steam.
What should you watch out for when viewing the Honda ST 1300 Pan European? The mileage is of secondary importance, more important is the proof that all optimization measures have been carried out. And although the thick ships are easy to navigate despite their bulkiness, a helper with strong arms within reach doesn’t do any harm at the first contact – they can help avoid embarrassing decline. If the condition of the wearing parts is correct, nothing stands in the way of a long partnership.

Dealer example: EZ 08/2003, 29,500 km – 6,480 EUR
Four times around the world, 40,074 kilometers each? Many a Honda ST 1300 Pan European would have done it easily. So there are more important criteria for viewing than pure mileage.

Dealer interview with Manuel Leder

Manuel Leder (32), trained automobile salesman and certified Honda motorcycle salesman.
Manuel Leder (32), trained automobile salesman and certified Honda motorcycle salesman. For eight years at the Swabian Zweirad Trinkner (www.trinkner.de) responsible for everything that bears the winged logo.
MOTORCYCLE: For whom is a Honda ST 1300 Pan European interesting??
Manuel leather: Most customers are in the 50+ range. Either you have already had a Pan and know its qualities, or you have been riding a motorcycle for years and are now looking for a reliable touring machine: comfortable, durable, uncomplicated and indestructible.
MOTORCYCLE: Would you rather recommend the ST 1100 or the Honda ST 1300 Pan European?
Manuel leather: That is purely a budget question. With the old Pan, you can get a very high-quality motorcycle for little money. If you can invest more money, the ST 1300 naturally offers the more modern motorcycle.
MOTORCYCLE: Why is someone selling his pan?
Manuel leather: The most common and almost only reason: the customer has reached an age at which the motorcycle is too heavy for him and he wants something lighter.
MOTORCYCLE: Does the Honda ST 1300 Pan European have typical weak points?
Manuel leather: The pendulum phenomenon is well known. But I can’t think of anything purely from the built-in components. Even with a Pan that has been serviced by us with over 120,000 kilometers, everything still runs flawlessly.
MOTORCYCLE: Then what could speak against her??
Manuel leather: On the one hand, maybe the heavy weight. And on the other hand, the only limited suitability for everyday use – it is just a touring bike. If you don’t just want to travel, an all-rounder like the CBF 1000 could be a good alternative: the case system on on vacation, then off again for the home route.
MOTORCYCLE: What is done most often in terms of accessories and changes?
Manuel leather: There are some people who would like to sit a little more upright and install a handlebar riser. Otherwise: navigation system, on-board socket, heated grips and everything that makes traveling easier. And since a topcase is not standard, we are happy to add that too.
MOTORCYCLE: Your tips for the visit?
Manuel leather: Just do the normal checks. You can buy a Pan with 70,000 kilometers without hesitation if the motorcycle is otherwise in good shape. Regular customer service is important – not necessarily every 6,000 kilometers, but annually. If the service has always been carried out at a Honda workshop, you can be sure that all product recalls have been dealt with.
