The VFR is a buddy type without great airs and is ideal for a longer liaison. Strangely enough, the extremely reliable second-hand Honda is hardly in demand. And it is not available cheap? but the offer is good.

For touring and gymnastics: The VFR is equally suitable for relaxed vacation trips and athletic exercises with knees on the floor. Hardly any other motorcycle on the market operates so confidently between these disciplines. In 1998 the Honda sports tourer replaced the VFR 750 F and took over its good reputation as a reliable and well-balanced long-runner.
With injection, a regulated catalytic converter and a handy, neutral chassis, the 800 series was able to win new customers at the end of the nineties, who otherwise flirted with Bavarian goods. With its suspension elements designed for comfort, the VFR, Type RC 46, at the time some sports fans were too good, almost too conservative. And the comparatively high consumption of an average of almost seven liters per 100 kilometers certainly put off some sensible people. With the facelift for the 2002 model year, Honda specifically addressed the weak points. With the chassis with great success, because the tighter set-up facilitates forced cornering immensely, but does not detract from the tourist qualities of the VFR.

And ABS was finally available as an option, coupled with the CBS composite brake, one of the best-functioning systems of all. For the 2002 model year, Honda has extensively revised the V4 engine. The VTEC technology (the change from two to four valve operation takes place at 7000 rpm) was intended to reduce consumption and increase torque in the lower engine speed range. This was only possible with moderate success. In return, the measures provided a little more power and at higher speeds an infernal sound that spreads the best racing mood. 1998 Generation change: The new VFR, type RC 46, with injection and G-Kat (only for Germany and Switzerland) replaces the successful carburetor model VFR 750 F and costs 19,900 marks (10,160 euros). Although the VFR is considered an extremely solid motorcycle, buyers should not strike blindly without a detailed test drive and inspection. Occasionally, there were complaints about quality defects in the paintwork, so check the vehicle thoroughly. The too short front fender allows dirt to get to the manifold unhindered, where it then bakes nasty. Check this area especially for copies with high mileage! With the RC 46 from 2002 with VTEC, the 24,000 series inspection with extensive valve clearance control is really expensive, around six working hours are charged for it. We highly recommend accessory windscreens (tip: Vario Screen from MRA, phone 07663/93890), which, unlike the standard screen, do not cause annoyance with turbulence. Luggage systems that go well with the travel-compatible chassis also have an enhancing effect.
Market situation
Rock solid, don’t mess around, multiple test winner. And yet only moderately in demand as used vehicles. Is the VFR too perfect to arouse emotions and a buying mood? The fact is that there is a loyal fan base who is specifically looking for good used copies. But it is also a fact that many dealers have bought technically flawless VFRs for expensive money when they trade in, which now lead a dreary existence of grandfather clocks and which can presumably only be sold through significant discounts or free accessories.
