Ducati 1200 Monster S 2014

Menus

The big Monster evolves greatly in 2014. A design still as impactful, with an overflowing mechanical part, end-to-end advanced technology, the abandonment of air cooling to get drunk on a boiling block of watts and a double version to satisfy enthusiasts and athletes.

As a rule, the Monster S is distinguished by a set of Ohlins suspensions. This is still the case for this 1200. The bonus comes from the power difference: 10 horsepower. The base 1200 Monster spits 135 nags at 8,750 rpm – the S climbs to 145 at the same rpm. A fine cavalry for a roadster with character. It thus finds the spirit and even outclasses the old S4Rs from which it is clearly inspired. The torque, also on the rise, stands at 12.7 mkg at 7,250 rpm. The Monster 1200 S will he cannibalize the Streetfighter of the same manufacturer? The 1098 SF has disappeared from the catalog and only the 848 remains. Unless the Monster 1200 is the new spearhead of Ducati’s muscular roadsters and a new extremely nervous Streetfighter based on 1199 is in the making. Speculation or anticipation ?

About 1199, the Monster 1200 is inspired by it for its chassis. A tubular steel trellis-type frame end is anchored directly to the twin cylinder heads. It offers double the torsional resistance compared to the old Monster. With its S, the machine raises the “sportivometer”. The Ohlins signature 48mm fork is fully adjustable, like the monoshock from the same manufacturer. Braking is directly taxed at the 1199 Panigale: 330 mm wafers bitten by Brembo M50 calipers. ABS is standard, a Bosch 9MP with 3 levels.

Full of technology, the 1200 Monster S offers 3 driving modes like the standard; with the only difference being the number of watts in Touring and Sport mode
Urban / 100 hp, with an electronic “Low” accelerator, a DTC which intervenes more strongly and an ABS at level 3 for a braking of maximum stability and parameterized to avoid the lifting of the rear wheel.
Touring / 145 hp, (106 in French version), with a “Medium” electronic throttle, more intrusive traction control and level 2 ABS as well as an activated rear wheel anti-lift system.
Sport / 145 hp, (106 in French version), with an electronic “High” accelerator for maximum sensitivity at the throttle grip, reduced traction control and ABS intervention without rear wheel anti-lift.

Halogen lighting + LEDs, height-adjustable saddle (810 or 785 mm), traction control, TFT screen dashboard, major overhaul interval increased to 30,000 terminals: the two 1200 Monster share these technical data. The S is entitled to a few more privileges (apart from its suspensions, brakes and horsepower): red stitching on the saddle, magnificent Panigale S type rims with triple Y sticks, hidden mufflers in black, and a relatively large entry ticket.
