Riding on cruisers remains a sensitive issue on the Ducati Diavel as well. After all, the necessary evil has been solved positively as a pull-out handle.

The superb driveability of the Ducati Diavel is also due to a tightly tuned chassis. The convenience can therefore only be increased minimally using the hand wheel.

Ducatis muscle bike as used
Ducati offers much more than just noble made material for the fast-and-weird faction. With the Ducati Diavel, the Italians have been going for really big pants since 2011. Convinces the muscle bike as a used one?

The madness one Ducati Diavel can best be read on the tires. In the original equipment, a Pirelli Diablo Rosso II rotates on the rim. A rubber for the super sporty fraction, definitely suitable for the race track. Only: The rear aluminum wheel is eight inches wide, so the Rosso II is not 180 or 190 millimeters wide, as is usual with sports skins – no, as a fat 240 it has a real cruiser format.

Only the Ducati is Diavel anything but a standard cruiser. The silhouette? Okay, according to the template you could put the devil (that’s the translation from the Bolognese dialect) in line with other power cruisers – whether a Suzuki M 1800 R, Triumph Rocket III or Harley V-Rod. Aaaber – the V-engine! It’s anything but a large-capacity bubble mass, solely optimized for lazy shifting, sluggish gliding in the highest gear.
Fat electronics package inevitable
The 1198 cm³ Testastretta II is a thoroughbred superbike engine, for use in the Enduro sister Multistrada and here in the Ducati Diavel but appropriately tamed. Whereby the measured 153 PS in the original version (from model year 2014 even 162 PS) does not sound particularly slack. In order to make the Italo-Cruiser really drivable, a fat electronics package is of course inevitable: ride-by-wire, traction control with three driving modes, ABS of course.
Finally, ingredients with which the Bolognese power bike stands out like no other around the corner – as if made for fast chasing across country roads of all stripes. From a dynamic perspective, the Ducati Diavel leaves the competition in dust and ashes. After the first test drive, you will be insane. wanna bet?

The Italo screwdriver scene is unanimous. The Ducati Diavel is one of the better Ducatis in recent years. That means: She usually comes to the workshop to have the regular service work done (every 12,000 kilometers). Or so that one of the numerous “safety recalls” could be ticked off. There were at least a few of them: nine in number in just five years of construction!
The “Hands Free” radio ignition key, which replaces the conventional ignition lock, and the side stand of the Ducati Diavel, which had to be replaced on the models from 2011 to 2013, were found to be susceptible. If the desired model gets too hot during the test drive, air bubbles may be trapped in the cooling system. Refilling with negative pressure provides a remedy. There is hardly a solution for the noise of the whipping chain, which (even with correct slack) hits against the slide guard on the swing arm when shifting.
Market situation

Ducati Diavel’s market situation. Availability on the market is high.
No pure-bred super athlete à la Panigale and Co., no clearly drawn naked bike like the monsters. And yet the Ducati Diavel, which conceptually somehow sits between all stools, has found its buyers. The Powercruiser / Muscle Bike has held its own in the sales rooms better than expected at the new launch. Not only in their own camp have some monster drivers swung over to the Diavel. Quite a few Harley riders have been won over by the “racing engine meets chopper figure” concept and have become addicted after riding the cannonball.
Almost 800 Ducati Diavel units were sold in the first model year, with 500 more new buyers each year following with a high degree of consistency. The used market is lively – especially since the older specimens are now just below the 10,000 euro mark. This should increase the incentive to buy a well-tended cruiser from Ducati. Young used vehicles such as demonstrators or previous year’s models are offered at around 25 percent discount. With skilful negotiation, further discounts or bonuses (equipment, accessories) are possible.
