Inadequate valve guides
As Ducati reports, there are obviously quality problems with the valve guides. The components from a supplier do not meet the required stability.
As part of the continuous product monitoring, the quality department of the Italians has noticed excessive wear of the valve guides on some engines of the Multistrada V4 in recent weeks. These valve guides are only installed in some of the engines produced. With motorcycles with this component, there is a possibility that there is a loss of power while driving or, in the worst case, the engine may fail, which can lead to a potential safety risk, Ducati continues. Documents published by the American traffic safety authority NHTSA indicate that the valves can break.
Motorcycles have to go back to Bologna
The motorcycle owners affected by the recall campaign will be contacted from March 29, 2021 and asked to bring their motorcycles to the authorized dealer for a corresponding update. According to information from MOTORRAD, the affected motorcycles will then be returned to the factory in Italy, where the engine will be replaced. Due to the long transport route, the whole campaign can take up to five weeks. The delivery of other Multistrada V4 models will probably also be delayed.
The authorized dealers will, as far as possible, ensure the mobility of the customers for the entire duration of the campaign with replacement motorcycles or alternatively offer a voucher for the purchase of Ducati accessories or clothing. In addition, Ducati in Germany grants routine maintenance free of charge for the revised Multistrada V4 for two years. This includes both the annual and the kilometer service, which are provided as part of the maintenance plan.
For the North American market, Ducati has decided to replace the entire V4 engine on all affected machines. In addition, the sale of the Multistrada V4 initially stopped in North America.
