2/6
Bridgestone S20 “M.”: The driving behavior over the entire lean angle is not completely neutral. At first it is easy to turn in, then the Yamaha MT-07 looks wobbly. The hard-wearing Bridgestone S20 is not exceptionally easy to handle, but it also shows no shimmy. In wet conditions, the original equipment tire impresses with its good grip and proper feedback.

Continental Road Attack 2 Evo: Agile, handy, precise steering – the Continental Road Attack 2 Evo covers a wide area for country roads. It provides enough grip until the footpegs of the Yamaha MT-07 touch down and has good feedback even when it is cold. Unfortunately it is very hard wearing. Wet grip is okay, even if Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli do better here.

Dunlop Sportsmart 2: The very sporty tire takes longer to get up to temperature, but then adheres properly. The Dunlop Sportsmart 2 acts more neutrally than the S20, but has a greater set-up moment. The wet grip is only average and worse than the S20. Advantages such as high stability and adhesion in an inclined position are limited by the early catches.

Metzeler M7RR: The Metzeler M7RR develops good feedback faster than the Dunlop. The Metzeler shines with its handiness and steers very precisely. The wobbly steering behavior is far less than with the standard tires. Slight erection moment when braking in an inclined position. On the other hand, the wet grip is only average and is behind the S20 and Sportsmart 2.

Michelin Pilot Road 4: Handiness and steering precision are very good as with the Conti, the feedback is even better. Even if the notches drag, the tire grip limit has not been reached. Its grip in wet conditions is outstanding, and the Michelin Pilot Road 4 also impresses when it comes to wear and tear.

Tire tips for the all-rounder

A light fun bike like the Yamaha MT-07 does not react as sensitively to the tires, but can still benefit from changing the tires.

Tires are always a matter of taste. Some people want as much grip as possible for a sporty driving style under good conditions, others want good grip even in cold and wet conditions. Some people want maximum stability and good straight-line stability, while others focus on maneuverability for maximum fun on bends. In the case of the Yamaha MT-07 the production tire Bridgestone S20 “M” is certainly a decent compromise, but it has small weaknesses in the steering behavior Yamaha sometimes makes it seem a bit wobbly. Some of the competitors can do that much better. If you want good all-round properties, you could be happy with the Michelin, for example. A tire that emphasizes the fun bike character of the Yamaha. The same applies to the Conti, which, however, offers a little less mileage. Dunlop and Metzeler are definitely more for specialists who want to let it burn properly.
