Electric scrambler with a retro look

Fly Free from California builds electric motorcycles in the classic scrambler look. The first models should be available for pre-order at the end of 2018. It is still unclear whether the e-retro bikes will also make it to Europe.

B.When it comes to the topic of electric motorcycles, the first thing that annoys some critics is the unusual, and often somewhat futuristic, look. The US company Fly Free from Long Beach (California) may also have noticed this fact. At least the appearance of the new electric model Fly Free Smart Desert that has now been presented suggests that. The appearance of the Smart Desert is strongly reminiscent of the more rustic scrambler models from the 50s and 60s.

Two more models in sight?

According to insiders, three models should initially be planned. Apart from the names, so far only details are known about the aforementioned Smart Desert. The other two model variants are to be called Smart Classic and Smart Old.

Fly Free

It is still unclear whether the new electric motorcycles from Fly Free will also make it to Europe.

With the Desert, you can choose between two different motor settings that differ in terms of maximum speed and range. With the entry-level model, a maximum range of 80 kilometers should be possible. Top speed: 64 km / h. The probably slightly more expensive second model variant is up to 80 km / h and should enable a range of 161 kilometers. The battery of the electric motorcycle should be removable and allow eight hours of charging time.

Lots of customization options

By the way, there is good news for all motorcycle enthusiasts who like things a little more individual: The Fly Free Smart Desert can be generously adapted. It should be possible to choose from 80 different colors and other equipment variants. There should be something for everyone.

Fly Free

The electric bikes can definitely be seen optically.

Fly Free also gives the electric scrambler three driving modes: Eco, City and Speed. Also on board are a smart key system, with which the bike can be started without a key, and the option of connecting the smartphone to the bike. Advance sales are scheduled to start at the end of 2018 via a crowdfunding platform. There is currently not much more information about the new bikes from Fly Free. The website is also currently under construction, but should have more information such as prices ready in the near future.
