Honda has the new Honda Monkey 125 officially presented. Most of the technical details about the new Monkey are now confirmed. The dimensions of the new Monkey should be particularly interesting for many interested parties. The tiny one is said to be 1,710 mm long and thus 45 mm shorter than the MSX sister. Accordingly, the wheelbase is also slightly shorter at 1,155 mm in comparison (MSX: 1,200 mm). On the other hand, the Honda Monkey, at 755 mm, is 25 mm wider than the MSX. The now confirmed dimensions are similar to those of the concept bike presented at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. At 1,030 mm, the vehicle height is even a point load. Dimensions of the concept bike: 1,713 mm, 753 mm and 1,030 mm (length, width and height). The seat height is 775 mm.

Starting price at 4,090 euros

Honda has also given some information about the engine. The air-cooled 125 single-cylinder was taken over from the MSX 125. In comparison, the Monkey drive is 0.4 HP weaker, which is due to the exhaust system of the Z125 MA. The Monkey was not designed for fast rides anyway. In this respect, 9.4 HP should be sufficient for nimble journeys through city traffic.

Other features already known from the concept study, such as the LED lights, an upside-down fork and a digital cockpit, are also adopted in the production model. In addition, Honda also commented on the weight of the new Monkey in the press release: the tiny model will weigh 107 kilograms when fully fueled. The tank holds 5.6 liters. The Japanese have finally given information about the price. For the Honda Monkey 125, 4,090 euros including 215 euros for ancillary costs are called. The new Monkey in the colors Banana Yellow / Ross White, Pearl Nebula Red / Ross White and Pearl Shining Black / Ross White is due to hit the streets as early as June 2018.

The new monkey is thrilled.

After all the press releases and trade fair encounters, the new Monkey MOTORRAD was finally available for a driving report.

Oh my god is she pretty! Honda is building a Monkey again, almost exactly 50 years after the original Monkey Z 50 M came on the market. Today the small wheeler is powered by a modern 125cc single cylinder, which thanks to injection and catalytic converter is totally environmentally friendly, quiet and economical. With only four gears in the somewhat wobbly gearbox, the Monkey feels a bit long translated. The first gear, which can reach speeds of over 40 km / h, is particularly annoying at traffic lights. But otherwise the bravely presented 9.4 hp are enough to make a dynamic figure in city traffic.

Sensational: parking, maneuvering, parking. Thanks to a mini turning circle, a weight of only 107 kilograms and a wide handlebar, it’s all really easy. Bright lighting, loud horn and at least an ABS on the front wheel also make the Monkey safe. We haven’t really emptied the 5.6 liter tank yet, so far there are only 160 kilometers on the hard-to-read digital counter.

The first big tour will soon be made, however, the softly tuned suspension struts and the quite large and comfortable seat promise a certain level of driving comfort, even on longer journeys. But back to the beginning. Seldom has Honda made so much effort to present a high quality retro look. The logo, the quilted bench, the beautiful two-tone paintwork, real mudguards, a lot of chrome, little plastic, for a little over 4,000 euros you get a lot of goods for little money.

A living legend

The very first Honda Monkey appeared in 1961, when Honda designed a first model that was developed for use in an amusement park in Tokyo. The first street legal monkey came just two years later. Now, almost 55 years later, a completely new Monkey is making it onto the market. We take a look into the past and show the most important milestones from almost 55 years of the Honda Monkey in the following picture gallery.
