The Honda XXL tourer as a used one
Unsuitable for wild off-road adventures, but this one is nonetheless “Enduro” a real men’s motorcycle. As a veritable and pleasantly inexpensive XXL tourer, it mainly attracts tall men to the scene.

The seat height of around 85 centimeters is hardly frightening. It is the overall imposing appearance that prevents you from saddling up on the Varadero without hesitation and carefree. Maneuvering the 280-kilo “Enduro” with a wide, but extremely comfortable bench and a wide, but fully suitable tank for long-distance tours, or even maneuvering safely off-road, requires a captain’s patent for XXL steamers. Attention, little men and women, here is an important piece of advice: Better keep your hands off this motorcycle, it will overwhelm you! But if you have what it takes to tame the fat Honda, then it thanks you with formidable touring qualities.

The high-torque V2 delivers over 90 lively horsepower; Wind protection, long-distance and passenger comfort are excellent. The Honda is technically extremely mature and durable. In terms of consumption, however, the carburettor model (until 2002) does not stand out as a nerdy, sometimes drinking over eight liters on brisk stages. In the leisurely touring mode with restrained throttle hand, it is also possible with less than six. The injection model from 2003 is less thirsty ex works, has a firmer and therefore better chassis for brisk curve surfing and is also available with ABS from 2004 onwards. That makes the types SD02 and SD03 highly attractive for sober calculating touring fans. Because in contrast to opulent luxury road tourers, some of which are still traded in five digits as high-quality used ones, the Varadero can be got hold of for 5000 euros as a super sleek gem from the first owner. There is still money left for individual travel accessories and a lot of gasoline and more to make your vacation extremely pleasant, clever! And if you like to sit high and lofty anyway because of long legs, you can saddle up without hesitation.

There is a fluffy and wide seat for the pillion passenger on the Varadero, and with the ergonomically successful handles, the Honda creates happy passengers.

The high level of attractiveness as a used machine is largely due to its good reputation as an extremely reliable machine. Apart from initial problems with the timing chain guide (only SD01), no weak points are known. Mileage well over 50,000 kilometers? Not an issue as long as maintenance and care are documented and wearing parts such as brakes and tires are okay. The somewhat spongy chassis on SD01 models is often optimized with retrofit fork springs and struts, this can confidently be included in the price.
Travel accessories are also in high demand for all offers – regardless of the year of construction. Accordingly, luggage systems, touring windows, protective bars or comfort benches (for example from BD Germany, Five Stars, Givi, Hepco) are seen as adding value & Becker, MRA or SW-Motech). Equipping with the “Travel” package from the Honda original accessories program also promotes sales.
Market situation
Dealers and private sellers are more or less balanced in terms of their offers, and the overall range is large. The interest in the Honda, no matter what type, is too. SD01s sell primarily above the price, around 3000 euros the 1000 is a real second-hand bestseller, but only well-maintained SD01s with comparatively few kilometers (less than 40,000) and lots of accessories achieve more than 4000 euros. SD02 models with ABS (from 2004), ideally equipped with the “Travel” package, generate very strong buying interest. If these are around 4500 euros in the advertising section, the provider’s phone does not stand still for long, and such used ones are still considered attractive up to 6000 euros. On the other hand, it is much more difficult for Varaderos at a higher price level (from 6500 euros) because some dealerships are already knocking out new vehicles from 10,000 euros before they mutate into grandfather clocks.

SD02 as an injection model with regulated catalytic converter, new cladding, new spring elements and six instead of five-speed gearbox. Price: 10190 euros.
2004
For the first time with an anti-lock braking system in addition to the composite brake, revised shock absorber with continuously adjustable rebound, modified cockpit. Also, for the first time, the “Travel” special model with main stand, heated grips, suitcases and luggage system (two suitcases and top case). Prices: 10,290 euros, 11,190 euros with ABS, 500 euros surcharge for the “Travel” package.
2007
Newly designed instrument unit, lockable storage compartments, modified seat and paneling, engine protection made of aluminum instead of plastic. Prices unchanged, but “Travel” package for an additional 1100 euros.
