The big little one who has everything of a big
It
there was the 125 in a sporty, custom or trail version. Korean
Hyosung now offers a 125 roadster version, equipped
a 4T V-Twin developing 14 horsepower: a real novelty
to greet in the sad world of the 125 cm3.
Discovery
The Comet immediately flatters the eye, with stature and presence
worthy of a big one. From a distance, it almost looks like a 500, in line
a GSE 500 or even an SV 650. The imposing tank,
the V-Twin engine highlighted, the headlight from the 650 (changed
in 2004 compared to the tiny pahre of the 2003 version), the enormous
chrome silencer, rear light, tires (150×70 to
rear) contribute to this impression of displacement
superior. In short, the Comet values its owner. And
bikers are easily mistaken by greeting more readily than usual
that big little one.
In the saddle
The Comet offers a typical roadster position, natural and pleasant.
The feet touch the ground easily, even for a 1.60 rider
mr. The knees grip the tank nicely and we
doesn’t really feel like you’re on a 125. It must be said that
the 125 shares the same frame as its big sister 250 cm3.
The rectangular mirrors are easily adjusted and
offer good visibility.
Under the eyes, we admire an analog but complete instrument panel offering
a speedometer and especially a tachometer, a fuel gauge,
a starter on the handlebars, a warning light and a contact switch: "accessories"
rare on this type of displacement. In short, everything is there.
Only the finish of the plastics is a little disappointing.
Contact
We turn the neiman key, which therefore also plays the role of
steering lock.
The engine starts straight away, without even the choke.
Moreover, with this hot weather, the engine chokes immediately
when we put the starter. The initial roar becomes angry above
8,000 rpm and will make future pilots dream.
In the city
The
Comet is not one at startup. Compared to others
125, it would even be a little soft, as long as it remains under the
7,500 rpm. It is therefore necessary to maintain it within
turns and whip it to extract all the power.
On the other hand, once launched, there is no more problem.
She sneaks around, helped by a pleasant driving position
and perfect stability, even on bad surfaces.
The simple front disc is more than enough to curb its ardor,
helped by the efficient rear disc. In short, it is possible
take the brakes and stop the motorcycle easily and quickly.
On the road
The engine goes up in the towers and the bike slowly takes off for
a long way. She has excellent goodwill for
climb the hills, even in pairs, being able to reach
a good 100 km / h. On the flat, it is able to pass the 110 km / h
counter, at the limit of the red zone. The same model
– once broken in (the test bike is only 500 kilometers)
– can titillate the 120 km / h as for him.
In fact, the straight line is not his favorite space. On the other hand, from
that she finds departmental and many virolos, she
is really revealed there. She then offers a real
driving pleasure for its pilot due to its ease of driving
and its exemplary handling. She never surprises and allows you to make up
really safe turns, including
in duet. The bravest can even take it for long
journeys, as we saw during the Turtle 2004 (several hundred
kilometers).
Braking
Equipped with two discs (one at the front and another at
rear), the Comet can brake hard. Rather, it provides
a good feeling and allows you to adjust the braking without surprises, including
in duet. In solo, however, it will tend to sink into
a little violent braking.
Comfort
The Comet is comfortable, due to the position of
free driving, an ideally sized tank
to accommodate the knees and an acceptable saddle. So we can really
consider going on the road with it and not be limited to one
purely urban use.
Duo
the
comfort becomes more complex as a duo, despite the jump seat provided for
the passenger. The absence of a handle, however, gives rise to the suspicion that it
is not made for that. This folding seat is indeed revealed
a real wooden plank, causing the poor passenger to jump
the slightest deformation of the roadway. The contrast is
even surprising with the comfort provided to the pilot.
On the other hand, the bike remains very healthy in duo, whatever the
roads, the passenger not helping in a significant way to
offload the front. In short, the duo is possible … on condition
to have the jump seat redone and to include a little foam.
Consumption
The large tank – 17 liters – aided by a
reasonable consumption of type 125 allows a range of 320 km
before reservation! In fact, filled to the brim, the gauge begins
to descend only from 150 km.
Convenient
The space under the saddle is relatively small, just what
necessary to place an articulated lock, rain pants, a
a pound, a coke, but not much more. It is out of the question here to
want to place a U.
The passage on reserve is carried out translationally with a
button placed on the left. Well placed, it should allow
to pass on reserve while driving, on condition of the
oil and loosen it, because it is almost impossible to turn
otherwise.
Conclusion
Aesthetically
very successful, the Comet will appeal to all those who want
a 125 with a big look, without wanting to pass the big cube license.
If its engine performance does not live up to the promises
of its size, it constitutes an excellent 125 which will provide good
pleasure to its owner.
