The Italian rim forge Jonich has taken on the subject of carbon and spoke rims. The result is a fine mix of aluminum and carbon fiber.

The carbon spoked wheel sounds almost too good to be true, and unfortunately it isn’t really yet. But: Jonich combines the two materials aluminum and carbon in a spoke rim: The rim is made of aluminum, the cover of the rim bed is made of carbon fiber and is used for optics and protection. And the look of the rim in particular is significantly pushed by the carbon.

Inside aluminum, outside carbon

The structure of the spoked rim with its high carbon content resembles a classic spoked wheel: the rim ring made of hydroformed or forged aluminum is connected to the milled hub by means of steel spokes. Before that, a precisely machined carbon ring is placed on the rim and screwed to the rim flange on one side. As usual with Jonich, the colors of the rim, hub and spokes can be combined and individualized in many ways. The sealing of the spokes for the use of tubeless tires can also be booked as an option.

Many options

Jonich currently has two versions of the 24M9 carbon rim on offer for a total of 61 – including older – motorcycle models and even those with a single swing arm. The standard Carbon screwed the spokes in the middle of the bed, the Drag version screwed the spokes on the outside of the rim. Special dimensions and designs are possible, prices on request. For the models that are already available, prices start at around 1,800 euros for a rim. According to the German importer Hartl-Racing from Putzbrunn in Bavaria, the delivery time is currently six weeks, as the rims are only manufactured after the order has been placed. The rims do not have an appraisal or ABE, but an individual acceptance entry is possible, but not guaranteed. The only thing left here is to discuss a conversion project with the trusted test engineer beforehand.

Conclusion

Nice mix of materials from Jonich: aluminum rim with steel spokes and a fine rim bed cover made of carbon. The color of the rim, hub and spoke can be selected, custom-made products are possible. Unfortunately, can only be entered by DOT number and individual purchase.
