After the cancellation of the Dakar, the organizers of African rally raids wondered about the sustainability of their own events. But after reflection, Hubert Auriol decided to maintain La Legende des Heros 2008 from March 8 to 22.. Program.

Following the cancellation of the Dakar (read), Hubert Auriol has decided to maintain La Legende des Heros 2008, which will therefore take place from March 8 to 22 between Paris and Dakar via France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal as initially planned.

"Safety is a fundamental part of our ordeal for us", explains Hubert Auriol, ex-competitor and organizer of the Dakar, in a press release published today:"the cancellation of the Dakar was a shock for the rally-raid community, but we have to keep things in perspective. The Dakar is an event of unrivaled scope with other rallies and the general impact cannot be compared. We are organizing a race intended above all for amateurs, it is a test of consistency and not of speed. And it changes a lot of things !"

"The itinerary we have chosen in Mauritania has nothing to do with that of the Dakar, because we operate in areas where the majority of tour operators have maintained all their trips.", continues Auriol, specifying that"the caravan of participants of La Legende des Heros does not have the same proportions as that of the Dakar and the competitors are much more supervised and grouped together over a day, which facilitates the organization on the ground".

Moreover, much less publicized – and therefore less interesting for terrorist movements seeking media visibility – the Legend of the Heroes will also benefit from the presence of the authorities at its side "throughout the event so that it takes place in the best possible conditions".

With 157 competitors registered to date, Hubert Auriol therefore ensures that he will "everything to make the third edition a success like the previous two".
