Market reports - Slippery first month 2015 for large-displacement motorcycles - The 125s stagnate, the big cubes slip

With 7,791 registrations on the clock, the French market for motorcycles and scooters of "125 cc and more" closed the month of January 2015 at a disappointing -9.7%. Sales of 125 cc are stable (+ 0.1%) but the big cubes are slipping (-12.9%). First Assessment.

The 125 stagnate, the big cubes slide

Motorcycle professionals in France remember that the first month of 2014 was certainly rainy, but mild … and very good for business (for the rare Site readers who suffer from a lack of RAM, reread our).

In 2015, the weather for January was different: "rainfall was close to normal over much of the country"Observes Meteo France, while the temperatures were cool, if we are to believe this time the report of the little finger – often frozen – from Site !

In terms of sales of motorcycles and scooters of "125 cc and more" – the famous motorcycles that interest MNC and its readers – January 2015 was rather calm: 7,791 registrations were recorded last month (21 working days) against 8,624 he a year ago (22 working days), a decrease of -9.7%.

After a traditionally quiet December, sales of "over 125 cc" resumed in January, but not as strongly as in January 2014 … At the end of last month, there were indeed 835 registrations missing to match the score for the first month of 2014 (5,614 vs. 6,449).

At the top of the sector’s sales with spectacular increases, Yamaha and BMW are well ahead of their rivals who see their January immats cut by half for Kawasaki, and by a quarter for Honda, Suzuki and Harley-Davidson. Europeans Triumph, KTM and Ducati are not much more valiant.

Much less seasonal, the 125 cc sector slightly improved its score in December 2014 (+130 immats) and beat its January 2014 mark by 2 units, for a negligible increase of + 0.1%. As always, the results differ greatly depending on the brands and products..

Still the leader, Yamaha is losing ground against a very offensive Honda. Piaggio completes the podium again … but falls again while the French brands Peugeot, MBK and Mash are in the green (light green for the first two, fluorescent green for the third!).
