Prepare the appropriate response

This is where mental training comes in. An established method for athletes for a long time, the structured mental cinema can also be of enormous benefit to motorcyclists. Like a film, mental training also needs a script, the content of which should ideally come from a professional so that no fatal errors creep in in an emergency. Because mentally, i.e. only “in the spirit”, we can train the desired courses of action as well as dealing with critical situations and recognizing their harbingers. Important: positive formulations, short and crisp. If, for example, a cramp is felt, the correct answer is: “Shoulders down, hands open, buttocks relaxed, look up!”

You can also prepare mentally for an oil stain.

Mental training can also be of great help as preparation for surprisingly tight corners. The constant repetition of self-instructions such as “look towards the exit of a curve” and “push” never hurts and helps when things get tight. “Pushing” means pushing the handlebar end on the inside of the curve forwards.

Many situations that would surprise or even frighten you unprepared can also be wonderfully mentally trained. Be it the turning oncoming traffic, the oil stain in the curve, the lorry changing lorry or the increasingly narrow “dog” curve – if we have already imagined situations and then have the right reaction thought out in detail and ready in note form, that increases our chance not to be frightened and to get through the situation unscathed. Result: more security, more well-being.
